Ohio State 68, Findlay 70 (Final)

Perhaps I did overreact a little bit.

I'll always trust Matta, and I do believe he will have this team ready for regular season play. But, with the schedule we have, some games could be brutal. Especially if keep playing this way.

Haha...we lost to D II team. I'd feel bad except that it's exhibition, this is a young team that will get much better, and Sparty already lost to GVSU and Michigan, well they lost to App. St. in football which is a much bigger deal than this.

Let's hope this somewhat embarrassing loss is a positive for the guys down the road.

Also, now I understand why we weren't ranked in the preseason.

I don't think we can emphasize enough how little this game means.

I went back to check the scores of our exhibition games the past two years on the official site - and they weren't there. Because they didn't happen. They were exhibitions. They don't count. They aren't wins, they aren't losses - they are glorified scrimmages.

Matta said that he purposely did not even tell his players what type of ball Findaly plays because he wanted them to figure it out on the fly and see how they reacted. They were not coached to win this game - it was an exhibition. They were coached to learn and to expose the weaknesses that needed work in practice.

And for all that the team that beat MSU was a top 10 Div II school. If MSU does not win the Big Ten they will be in the thick of it - and they did not lose on a tip in at the buzzer. And they are not replacing four starters.

Findlay is rated above the team that beat MSU. They are an Ohio school who wanted this one desperately.

Tonight was a pathetic display - particularly in terms of effort. But it was an exhibition game. We saw significant PT from FIVE true Freshmen and a Soph JC transfer. Don't let kids like Conley spoil you regarding what you can expect from a true Frosh. Give it time.

Relax. It is going to be a fun season. Anybody who is looking for wins over teams like UNC is probably going to be disappointed. But it will be a fun season nonetheless.

In the infamous words of Colonel Nathan Jessup in "A Few Good Men":

"Well Don't I feel like the Fuck'in Asshole" for posting the MSU loses to Grand Valley State thread.

This shit just isn't acceptable. It's just not acceptable. Isn't anywhere near acceptable.

I didn't see the game, and it is only exibition, but reguardless it's embarrassing. I don't have high expectations for this year, even 1 year removed from the title game. Unfortunently, beating 1AA is an expectation.:pissed:

There is no I-AA in basketball. Findlay is a Division II school. Chaminade (D-II team in Hawaii) has made a habit of upsetting big teams in the pre-season tournaments in Hawaii (they've beaten a couple of Big Ten teams before, and even a top 10 team, IIRC). This loss is not all that embarrassing...

EDIT: Just did a little Google check, and Division II Chaminade upset then #1 Virginia (with Ralph Sampson) in 1982.

IMO this loss is embarassing and I hope Matta gets on his team for their craptastic effort. Players who don't give effort and get beat by D-2 teams don't deserve scholarships to The Ohio State University. I'm sure this team will get better and we will all laugh about this one when our Buckeyes are in the NCAA tournament later but right now this kind of game is not acceptable I don't care if it is a scrimmage. You fellas got to play balls to the walls every minute of every game because there are no Oden's or Conley's on this team. Give great effort, learn from coach Matta and you guys will no doubt play like we all know you can. I know you guys will get better and get after it. Now get to work and as always, GO BUCKS!
