We need both Lighty and Buford to produce. I've watched this game a few time already and I can't say enough about the Buckeyes.
What a good win for us.

i'm not sure where i stand on the issue. buford is great on offense, and he's athletic as hell but Lighty is playing some incredible defense. as long as turner is playing the way he has been i say leave in lighty for now.

I don't know if I would call Lighty's defense "incredible" but I will give you the fact that he is playing solid defense in the zone. It is really not that difficult to play good defense when the team is playing a zone if you are committed to playing defense. I am not saying to take Lighty or Diebler out and give all of their minutes to Buford. When I am saying is that I would like to take those three guys and distribute their minutes more evenly.

I'm not sure, but I don't think ND has beaten tOSU in football (for sure) or basketball since I was born. No reason to let them now. NOT TONIGHT

Great game for the Bucks! Very excited to see the young guys respond to a challenge like this. Turner is a star and is such a treat to watch. As for the team, we play great defense and play very well as a team. It seems the chemistry is definetly there. I'm loving what I have seen so far.

I'm not too worried about it, mostly because polls in college basketball mean absolutely nothing, but I don't see any games the rest of this month we shouldn't win. So if we take care of business we're going to steadily move up the rest of this month and very well could be in the top 15 by Big Ten play.

Local press observations...

They were very very impressed with OSU's athletic abilty, the wingspan
of several OSU players and OSU's defense both with the press and 12 court. OSU took away Kyle Mac, ND's all time 3 point leader and frustrated ND's point guard Tory Jackson.

This was not used as excuse because as they said NO one else stepped up. Luke was said to be about 80 -85 percent. Word was that he really struggled catching his breath during time outs.

Again, a young OSU team simply outplayed a veteran ND team.

if we show up for Big11 season undefeated, i don't think we'll be sneaking up on anyone. with that said, i agree that 21 is a bit lower than i expected.

I like the ranking for this point in the season. We will have plenty of chances to climb the ladder with games against Butler, WVU, and the conference sched. If the team takes care of business, they should be in a position to grab a high NCAA seed in march. The #21 ranking gives them the sense that they belong in the top tier, but doesn't yet give them the burden of being a team that everyone wants to knock off. Matta can challenge them to earn their way to higher rankings. I like the attitude of the team so far, seems like the really enjoy playing the game. I hope Turner's performance over the last week is just a taste of things to come. Add in a couple of players showing steady development, and this could be a very dangerous team.

you might be underestimating David's defense a bit. Not many 6'6 wing players are capable of playing underneath the hoop in a zone. David routinely gets stuck playing centers and power-forwards in tOSU zone. And he does a pretty good job of it. It allows tOSU to play a very quick style with:

Lighty
Diebler
Turner
Simmons/Crater

I agree 14....the issue is pulling David, and then having to compensate for missing his defensive ability.

If I'm remebering correctly, the only time I have seen Dallas and Mullens on the court at the same time is when Lighty has been sitting. You're obviously not as quick with that line-up. And the press we love to run and having been giving people fits with isn't possible with Mullens and Dallas on the court together.

Bufurd just isn't as strong as David, and I don't think has a firm enough grasp on defense to fall into the back of a 1-3-1 match-up zone.

I might not understand a whole lot about basketball but the one thing that I do understand is the principles of playing zone defense. It really all depends on what side of the court the ball is on when you are determining which one of the wings is going to be stuck playing a PF. Lighty stirred quite a bit with his shot last year and all I am saying is that I think Buford/Lighty/Diebler minute should be split about evenly. If David's shot starts coming around, I am fine with that but sometimes you need points to win a game:)
