Ohio State 65, Michigan 55 (Final)

Lets just play some perimeter defense first and go from there.........
Fortunately, scUm doesn't have any outside shooters except maybe for Harris and it seems that we always play better (harder) defense at home.

Interesting note that are FT% is better away than at home. That's somewhat unusual.

When it comes to college sports, there's football, basketball, and then everything else. As I'm sure is the case with many of you, my family (wife and three kids) have no choice but to be gargantuan Buckeye fans. No choice whatsoever. Period. And, they also have no choice but to appreciate the magnitude of a game against Michigan. (Actually, I got a call from my duaghter's kindergarten teacher because my 6-year old girl was tearing into a boy who just moved from Michigan) So, three of the most important sports games of the year for my family are THE GAME, and the two basketball games against tsun.

Well, I have a son who is now in preschool, writes his own name, plays Mario Kart and Lego Star Wars on Nintendo, and watches Buckeye games with me. I wouldn't say this if I believed in jinxes, but I firmly believe that he is the chosen one of Ohio State sports. He has been put here for one very noble reason, and that is to ensure that the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines in football and basketball every year.

So far, so good. He has not been alive to witness a Buckeye defeat to the Wolverines in football or basketball. Counting Big Ten tournament games, Buckeyes are up 12 to 0. Bottom line is I don't care how much they suck this year, fuck Michigan.

Alright all, a little new to the site if you haven't noticed. I was fortunate enough to get tickets to this game, as it is being played on my 24th birthday. I've been to Buckeye football games and a few basketball games. I'm a die hard, just can't always afford the ticket prices. That and I have to pay for an upcoming wedding. I'm still trying to get the colors of scarlet and gray, but the fiancee doesn't seem to fond of the idea.

Just wanted to ask what the atmosphere is like for this game? Obviously it's not a big of a game as the football game, but do the fans get into it just as much? I'm really hoping so. No matter what, I'm pumped. I was blessed enough to get 11th row seats, mid court, 20 bucks a piece. I didn't believe it until I picked them up today.

Anyways...I'm pumped and hope that because it's that team up north...everyone else is as well...

Honestly you will probably have people sitting around you that will get upset if you get up too much during the game...

I don't thin the atmosphere will be great like it will be against IU, but I at least hope the crowd gets into this one...

Well...either way I'm excited for the game. Don't get to make it to a lot of them so they are all exciting to me. I was able to make it to one last year and it turned out being a good one. Cleveland State, and the 1st game Oden played as a Buckeye. I had to convince my fiancee that he was actually younger than her...

Here's another question. I need some suggestions and fast! I'm dressing in the warm ups the players currently wear and need to make a small sign with some creativity behind it. Something along the lines of "hey coach, I can beat Michigan, put me in". I'll probably just write it up on a cardboard piece of paper or something. Nothing major, just for fun. Any ideas!?!?!

U-M HOOPS: Frustrated players call meeting; They intend to 'buckle down' before OSU February 5, 2008
BY MARK SNYDER
FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

Michigan basketball players Manny Harris and Ron Coleman reached a breaking point after Thursday's loss to Minnesota. The pair, supported by DeShawn Sims and Kelvin Grady, called a team meeting Saturday in the Crisler Arena locker room to try to provide a boost with nine regular-season games remaining.
"I kind of led the meeting and said it's my last year and we've got to buckle down," Coleman said Monday. The Wolverines face Ohio State at 7 tonight. "This year we've got a lot of young guys who are willing to listen, learn and get better. The meeting helped a lot, talking to guys and hearing their opinions."

He said every player spoke -- including Laval Lucas-Perry and Erik Puls, who aren't playing this year -- and there was a common theme.

We are still leading the conference in 3pt defense...

One bad game shouldn't sour the taste too much...

Thanks for the stats bucky, and it shows that we are so much better shooting the ball at home...

CB40....I understand the stats....but honestly......I do have a sour taste in my mouth when I keep seeing the same guy shooting uncontested shots from the perimeter and it is not the first time it has happened this year.....go back and look......this is not our first bad game......take off the scarlet and gray glasses and really evaluate this team.....the zone is a tool to protect our weaknesses and it also exposes our weaknesses in my opinion.

I thought the zone was more of a testament to the lack of quality depth on the bench right now.

Exactly.....it is a tool to keep Butler on the floor for most of the game and limit fouls do to our lack of depth (we are near the top in fouls per game in the nation) this is just speculation on my part but to hide KK on the defensive end......the negatives is that we consistently give up second chance baskets off rebounds due to not being in position which is the chance you take with a zone.....

The question is basically if this is the only type of defense we can play...what does that say about our overall talent level on this team? Please...no one say they our young.....Matta is a great coach....he has not made adjustments when teams have shot well from the perimeter and obviously it is due to our inability to play defense in the paint. Are the expectations to high? I believe so.
