Ohio State 65, Michigan 55 (Final)

Seeing the Wolverines in person underscored what I've said for quite a while -- John Beilein is one of the most overrated coaches anywhere. There is a lot of talent on that team, and no way they should be 5-and-freaking-17.

With that being said, it was a much more difficult game than I'd hoped for. Thank goodness Diebler had such a terrific game.

Simple Thoughts

Most seem to be pretty quiet about this win. Don't know if too many of you are afraid to say much (like I am) after the Iowa game or are we waiting to just see what happens Sunday.

I thought the team played very similar to the Iowa game for about the first 25-30 minutes of the game. I could not tell if it was because we picked up our intensity on defense or if we just picked them up further out and communicated better. Probably a little bit of both. The guys that have complained about the weasels giving a lot of open looks from three-point land have to remember that have for their shots came from behind the arc so you're going to get some good looks.

I am still a little concerned about our offense. The reason we do not get any offensive rebounds is because usually there are four players standing on the three-point line when a shot is taken. If we are not making our threes, I think we can get beat by lesser teams because most of the guys are just satisfy to shoot the three rather than to drive and shoot or dish to someone else closer to the basket.

I thought that Hunter played probably his best game of the season and KK finally showed some enthusiasm which has long been lacking.

I still am concerned about Turner and Lighty because they seem to be on and off. I just wish they would not settle for somebody three-point shots. Yes, I am still concerned about Diebler but hopefully this game was a confidence booster for him. Two of those three guys have to be hitting or we are in trouble in any game.

In a way, I was glad to see Butler taking it to the basket even though he got rejected a couple times. Maybe he was trying to show his teammates something but I have no idea.

Hopefully, the game thread for Sunday will not be a meltdown like it was after the Iowa game. As someone has said even though we did not play that well against the weasels a win is a win and let's move on and support our Buckeyes--all of them!:osu:

Why scared to say anything...The more discussion the better...I think it is just signing day so lots of attention on that today...

Agree here...Teams are obviously doing a good job of scouting us and getting some open looks against the zone...Hopefully we get that corrected, but when a team shoots that many 3's they are going to get open looks...No matter if we play zone or man...

I agree offense will be a concern for the rest of the year...I think we made a more concerted effort to get the ball inside and we actually used the pick n roll on the wing and not up top and got some easy looks to Hunter...I think we need to use the pick n roll to get some mismatches as well...Lots of x's and o's things to talk about on offense IMO, but I think it is a matter of getting some more penetration and doing more off the dribble other than just trying to catch and shoot and force shots...

I thought that Hunter played probably his best game of the season and KK finally showed some enthusiasm which has long been lacking.

Hunter played very good, He seems to grow more confident as the season goes on...Needs to continue to be assertive and force them to give him the ball and continue to work the boards...

As for KK I have said that it always depends on his offense...If he is struggling on the offense end the rest of his game seems to suffer...

I agree all the way around here...Turner is just going thru a little slump here and it would be great to see Diebler pick up some of the slack if he struggles much longer...I thought Lighty played well last night and did quite a bit off the curl cut with the little pull up jumper...I think that is his game, moreso than just penetrating...He plays better in a movement offense than a catch and shoot or 1 on 1 type style...Lighty is shooting the ball better, it is just a matter of him slashing and getting some looks, not always the 3 ball...These 3 are the key to the season...Need them to up their play and do it on the same night and we will be fine...

In a way, I was glad to see Butler taking it to the basket even though he got rejected a couple times. Maybe he was trying to show his teammates something but I have no idea.

I have been saying that he needs to get inside the 3 point line instead of staying out there...It opens up the team as a whole and also makes the defensive guy respect more off the dribble which should open up the 3 ball...

Hopefully, the game thread for Sunday will not be a meltdown like it was after the Iowa game. As someone has said even though we did not play that well against the weasels a win is a win and let's move on and support our Buckeyes--all of them!:osu:

I think we will come out to play and also the crowd is really going to be ready to go Sunday...

We played a lot better in the second half and I saw some intensity that wasn't there for Iowa so I think if we keep it up we will be ok.
I sure hope we can win enough to get into the NCAA tourney.

I will admit that there was a little more intensity than in the Iowa game but you could also see the guys talking more on defense and communicating (pointing to guys who were cutting through, saying that they had a certain guy, etc.). Plus they extended the defense out further during the last 15 minutes or so.

I would think that we have to win the rest of our home games and win and Minnesota to give in. MSU really hurt us by losing to Penn State and we didn't do ourselves any favor by losing at Iowa.

JMO but I think we are on the outside looking in right now.
I don't think we can lose anymore and get in.

It astonishes me how good the defense is when they play both hard AND smart. The last 10 minutes of the game on defense is how they need to play all the time. How many shot clock violations? How many deflected passes? How many contested shots with less than 5 on the shot clock? Where the hell is that D early on in the game? Gotta bring it for 40 minutes, boys.

I'll take the win, but I'm not taking much more than that from it.

Don't forget to wear your white on Sunday. :p
