Sampson III and their other big guy can be somewhat dominating at times but you are correct we are much improved since the last meeting and they did not play well away from Williams Arena.
Good points, LitlBuck. Even though Mullens has had a couple big offensive games out of the last five or so, our inside presence has been somewhat lacking. BJ shines when he doesn't have a comparable size matchup in the paint, but struggles defensively when going against a legit big man. Dallas' offense has been worrisomely absent, although he plays tough D. The thing that I believe could boost both of their productions offensively is the ability of the guards to get the ball to them when they are in motion to the basket. The first basket of OT against PU was one of the most beautiful plays I've seen all season, have a perimiter player make a move towards the hoop, and dish it to a big man who has a clear path to the net. It was a stark contrast to the usual method of feeding the inside men, which is giving them the ball 6' from the net with a defender on their back, and expecting them to create a shot. Likewise, a game or two ago, there was a play where Diebs fed the ball into BJ, who kicked it back out to JD when the D collapsed on him, resulting in a JD 3-pointer. Both of those plays were just great basketball moves, and it kills me that we don't see them multiple times a game. Those are the plays we should be running constantly, and playing the percentages that they will pay off more often than they don't. But, I do like where this team is now. We have the ability to score from a lot of different places (Diebler's gonna catch fire sometime!), I'm not too worried about where the shots are taken. The big question for me is, are we going to be able to adjust the zone coverage when the othe team starts exploiting the holes. Big game, and I think we're favored! If we win this one, we control our destiny to fninsh at least #2 in the Big Ten (I think), which would guarantee a NCAA berth. Go Buckeyes!!!
