Game Thread Ohio State 6, Penn State 13 (Oct. 25)

This was shown in the drop tOSU received in the rankings. Losing to a number one team, when the team is ranked topfive doesn't usually account for a drop out of the top ten. tOSU went to 14th, the voters basically said, these teams ahead of you may not exactly be that much better, but we don't want you having any chance of getting back there, deserved or not. We are going to put you as low as we can get away with, and hope that all the teams ahead of you don't lose. And if they do, we'll still vote someone else in, tOSU will not be in the Champ game.

I think the drop to 14th is because of the lopsided score. OSU is still the highest ranked 1 loss team. It's not like OSU looked impressive against Ohio or Troy. And would you rate OSU much higher than 14th right now? If OSU keeps improving and look like a #2 team in the nation in Nov, people will have to reallize that OSU has become a better team and will vote accordingly. Oklahoma keep getting blown out of bowl games but 2 games into the season and everyone is talking about them vs USC, that is until they lose.

If OSU keep playing like they have been playing, they won't even win the big10. But OSU is loaded and can play much better than they have been playing. If OK loses to TCU by 10+ points this weekend, they'll probably end up behind OSU just like Auburn is. Everyone who saw LSU-AUB and OSU-USC would probably rank AUB higher than OSU, but where is AUB? Sure, they could still jump OSU, but they won't have that opportunity if OSU look good.

The Championship game is in January, pollster can't put September teams in there.

I wish PSU get to play OSU this week because I think our chances are much better than next month. I really hope PSU jump OSU and win out. After this weekend we'll know if we have the team to do it. If PSU keeps winning comfortably, our team might be deep enough by the time we get to the Shoes.

Well, here goes USC undefeated season! Like I said, USC looked invincible with the rest of their schedule until someone pulls their pants down. This may not be their only loss, they still have to play Az, UCLA, ND and Standford.

Next, OU vs TCU, MO vs NE. USC shut out first half and only scored 14? Impossible!

This is why the games are not decided on ESPiN shows. Both teams will show up for Oct 25th game, the spread will probably be 3pts.

This weekend will tell if PSU has a solid team. Now that I think of it, I think the best thing is for PSU to win out and OSU to win all Big10 games except PSU in a close game. Then OSU get a rematch with USC in the Rose bowl and have your revenge. Most PSU fans wanted the buckeyes to win that first match up vs USC. Beat USC at the end of the year and then again next year at the Shoe and USC maybe at the receiving end of all the critics.

Like I hinted at earlier, logic and reasoning is out of the window with the current OSU team. We won't be in the title game. It's not happening. If every team in the SEC has three losses and USC ends up losing a couple more times, we'll have a shot..

While this is PSU's biggest challenge I won't be surprised to see the score like 35-10 PSU.

Illinois is in Happy Valley at night, and Juice still isn't hte best passer out there. Not to metion Illinois defense isn't what it was last year and I'm not so sure that PSU will roll right through this one as well?

PSU's first challenge will be against Wisconsin/OSU not Illinois.

Well this is the wrong thread to post this... but I am going to bet 750K on your word right now, so if you're wrong, you have to pay me back, but if I win, you get a nice pat on the back.

Yeah, and USC first challenge after OSU would be in the BSC NC game? CBS already annoint OU vs SEC in there now. While Wisc/OSU will be the harder game for PSU on paper. The only game PSU can overlook the rest of the year will be Minnesota. OrSU defense isn't what it was last year neither, or is it now?

Nothing is sure until 60 minutes clock expires. But if the past couple weeks are any indication, PSU would take ILL seriously for 30 minutes then let them score one or two on the 2nd/3rd team. JoePa won't overlook any team and neither do I, but confidence level is definitely high about this weekend!

There's going to be losses in the SEC and Oklahoma always manages to blow it somewhere along the line.

USC will be back up there after they roll through the rest of their schedule. There was just too much love to let a loss to Oregon State ruin that. I'm still thinking it'll be USC and Georgia/Florida in the NC game. But don't sleep on Penn State right now. With the condition the Big 10 is in they might be up there as an undefeated team.

I'm very worried about Penn State right now. That game has the potential to get out of hand in a hurry with the way the Ohio State defense has played lately. If they sit back on that Penn State offense it's going to be a long night for the Buckeyes.

IF Ohio State manages to beat Penn State by a good margin (10+ points) it'll be enjoyable to watch the talking heads attempt to explain the transitive circle that was created, especially if many of the other contenders (Oklahoma, Missouri, all 12 SEC teams) falter.

As long as we continue to improve, I think it will be easy for a reasonable person to look at the changes made in our offense and surmise that we are one of the top teams in the country.

But I believe that more than likely a rematch with USC is very much probable.

Paterno has Penn State on course for greatness

By Greg Billing
Staff Writer

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
I owe Joe Paterno an apology.
Despite being a fan of Penn State University's football team, I was secretly hoping the Nittany Lions would have a rather so-so season.
I wanted to see Penn State post a record a few games better than Bobby Bowden at Florida State, which would keep Paterno ? 81, in his 43rd season as Penn State's head coach ? ahead of Bowden in career wins.
Then they would both retire.
I think the Nittany Lions would benefit from a younger coach ? Rutgers' Greg Schiano, possibly? ? who can better relate to the players and bring in some new ideas.
But Paterno's spread offense has the Nittany Lions at 5-0. Impressive wins include a 45-14 thumping of Oregon State (which roughed up USC) and a 38-24 Big Ten triumph against Illinois.
For that start, the Lions leaped from 12th to sixth in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls. Now I'm hoping Penn State wins it all, something I didn't think possible with the loaded team Ohio State returned.
