Game Thread Ohio State 6, Penn State 13 (Oct. 25)

Obviously Ohio State is not as dominate as we thought and apparently Penn State is a little better than we thought. The gap has narrowed. I'm still optimistic that with a healthy Beanie we should still be the "class of the conference". The bottom half of the conference appears pretty weak (i.e. Indiana, Iowa, Purdue, and maybe even scUM, etc.). My guess is that Penn State could be fighting the likes of Wisconsin, Illinois, and maybe Michigan State for a Florida bowl game.

PSU fan here...

I saw the OSU/USC game and I thought that if Pryor was in there more, the score wouldn't have been so lopsided. And I saw a lot of people who hate OSU said that Beanie wouldn't have made much of a difference. I totally disagree because Beanie would've given OSU a much better chance at short yardage situations at the begin and OSU might not had to settle for a field goal.

If PSU plays OSU anytime in the past 4 weeks, I think I'd like our chances very much. A couple of you guys said that PSU are blowing out cupcakes just like they've been in previous years. But if you saw any of the games, the backups were in there very early, unlike other years.

If both teams stay healthy, then it should be a very close game. The edge would go to OSU because it's a home game. It's the toughest game of the season for PSU.

If PSU/OSU don't get tripped up before this game, the team that wins this game will be in the National Tittle picture. I know not too many people think OSU can make it there, but every season people are talking about undefeated USC and OU, but how often did that happen? The SEC champ will have at least 1 loss also. It's better to lose at the beginning of the year than at the end.

Our chances are slim to none, at this point. USC was our shot at redemption in the public eye, and we blew it. It's usually better to lose early in the year, but when you lose on national television and don't even score a TD, you've pretty much buried yourself in a hole that you can't dig yourself out of. Especially after losing the last two national championship games in not-so-good fashion.

State Penn fans are drifting in. Be respectful and you can stay. Don't and you'll be gone before you can say "Depends". :tongue2:

I'll be respectful to anyone who deserves it. Did you invent "State Penn"? Is that how you show people respect? Would you like me to show you the same respect?

3074326.... If you look at the current polls, there are less than 10 teams ahead if everything goes perfect the rest of the way. Weren't there 2 teams ahead of OSU the week before the season ended in 2007 and it took miracles for OSU to get back into the top 2? Everyone keeps talking about undefeated seasons, but chances are slim due to upsets, injuries.

OSU/PSU/WISC can still get beaten up by MSU, ILL, MICH, PURDUE and/or each other. There's still a lot of time to look impressive. It's not unheard of that teams look better towards the end of the season. It's not that rare that BIG12 only undefeated team get blown out in the Championship game by a 2+ losses team or USC to lose to Standford or SEC champ to have 2 losses.

I'm just saying that 1 early season loss won't bury OSU because the chances of other relevant teams going undefeated are just as slim.

I just don't think we'll be backing into the title game like we did last year. The voters aren't going to be giving us another shot. We blew our chances in California. That was our shot at the title. If we had won one of the last two title games, or won in SoCal, things would be different. Fact is, this team hasn't proven anything and now everyone, including Buckeye fans, know this.

Look at it from an outsider's perspective. OSU will not be in the title game this year. I certainly know what you're saying, and would normally agree, but not this year.

This was shown in the drop tOSU received in the rankings. Losing to a number one team, when the team is ranked topfive doesn't usually account for a drop out of the top ten. tOSU went to 14th, the voters basically said, these teams ahead of you may not exactly be that much better, but we don't want you having any chance of getting back there, deserved or not. We are going to put you as low as we can get away with, and hope that all the teams ahead of you don't lose. And if they do, we'll still vote someone else in, tOSU will not be in the Champ game.

That is a mighty bold IF as well. Who's to say beanie returns at all?

Care to revise?

So are you saying that Penn state is that bad or are you saying that you feel the team has improved enough to beat penn state by 10 even without beanie?

I'm not saying that PSU is that bad, I'm simply stating that given their personnel losses from last year, I'm not believing that they'll perform well against decent talent this year. You may be wowed and buying the hype that ESPN is generating about PSU's blowing out crummy opponents, but I'm not. Add the facts that Pryor will have had several games under his belt by that point and the game is in Columbus, and I'd say OSU will win even without Beanie by 7-10.

Even without Beanie, Boom will have five more games under his belt, along with the revamped OL having those five games playing together as a unit.
