Game Thread Ohio State 43, Youngstown St. 0 (Aug. 30)

Uh, yeah, he did. You must've missed where he had Boeckman throw a bomb from midfield on first down late in the first quarter when we were already up 28-0 (pass was a tad late and was picked off at the NW 2 yard line). He also kept Boeckman in the entire first except for the last drive, when we were already up 42-0 (Schoenhoft drove the team for a FG to mke it 45-0 at half). Also, after NW returned the second half KO for a TD, Tressel had the first team drive the ball down for a quick TD in response. It was only when we were up by 45 points did he let the backup QBs play.

Did you even read what you wrote? Sorry, but there is no such thing as running up the score in the first half let alone the first quarter. Tressel took them all out early in the 3rd. The only reason he brought the starters back in was to make sure NU didn't get any sort of momentum after that kick return TD. Northwestern was just completely overwhelmed and outmatched. The fact that our offense was completely green including our QB probably had a little something to do with us throwing, don't cha' think?

Per the-ozone, Scott Sika is backing up Rehring at LG. That concerns me.

EDIT- I just looked at the box score. Boeckman threw 14 fucking times! Running up the score my ass.

And here the scoring drives.

Drive: 7 plays, 65 yds, 3:28752
TD02:08Maurice Wells 1 Yd Run (Two-Point Conversion Failed)

Ohio State vets focus on YSU

The Associated Press
Published: August 26, 2008
COLUMBUS, Ohio: After more than three weeks spent on conditioning or memorizing the playbook, the Ohio State Buckeyes can finally get around to concentrating on an opponent.
Youngstown State, the second-ranked Buckeyes' opponent on Saturday in the season opener, is officially in the crosshairs.
"It's so crazy that it came so fast. It's incredible," said tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells. "It seems like just yesterday we were getting off that plane coming home from the loss against LSU and now we're here and ready to begin a new era and a new season."
It's not hard to tell that the opener is just around the corner.
"We're getting pretty eager. You could tell toward the last week of camp that guys are on edge, there's a little more talking, a little more chirping, and we're ready to play somebody else other than ourselves," wide receiver Brian Hartline said.

The Buckeyes had the past weekend off ? their last until Thanksgiving. They returned to campus Sunday night with Ohio State's 119th season at hand.
Unlike a typical year, coach Jim Tressel and his staff had so many returnees in fall camp that they could dispense with some of the orientation stuff. Sure, they still had to provide introductory information for the incoming freshmen, but not for the grizzled vets filling up uniforms.

I disagree.

I disagree. Anything after the the first couple of series on the 2nd half is running up the score. Spurrier used to leave his starters in well into the fourth, causing everyone to say he was running up the score.

When the backups come in, and they can't be stopped for almost the entire 3rd and 4th quarters, it isn't running up the score. It's just being vastlt superior to your opponent.

Going to the 'Shoe this weekend? Prepare for game-day gridlock

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CHRIS RUSSELL | DISPATCH
Construction on N. High Street north of Lane Avenue could make game-day traffic even worse. Traffic is restricted to one lane in both directions. Fans should consider using Kenny Road instead of High Street, said Sarah Blouch, director of transportation and parking services for Ohio State.

End-zone pylons won't be the only orange Buckeye fans will want to stay between on Saturday. Construction on N. High Street north of Lane Avenue will make bumper-to-bumper traffic tighter with orange cones restricting traffic to one lane in both directions, said Mary Carran Webster, Columbus assistant director of public service.
Webster said the city has told construction crews to make sure the intersection of Hudson and High streets is open before, during and after the game.
Andrea Portier, an Ohio State University sophomore who lives on Hudson, said she anticipates heavier traffic outside her house as fans travel east toward I-71 after the game.
"It's going to take a lot more time to get in and out," Portier said.

Buckeyes see some danger in Penguins
Appalachian State factor looms large along with injuries
Wednesday, August 27, 2008 3:27 AM
By Ken Gordon

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

When Ohio State players look across the line of scrimmage Saturday, they won't see Youngstown State as a Football Championship Subdivision team. All they will see are real, live football players -- players capable of inflicting pain.
Ask Lawrence Wilson, a defensive end who suffered a broken leg against the Penguins in the opener last year and missed the rest of the season.
Ask Alex Boone, an offensive tackle. Discussing the notion that Youngstown State is an unworthy opponent, Boone said, "All right, then why am I so sore (the next day)?"
The fact is, no matter what subdivision, it's a football game, and players will be putting themselves in jeopardy.
The danger not only is literal but also psychological. It's human nature for the second-ranked Buckeyes to overlook a team that comes in as a five-touchdown underdog.
