Players of the week
Ohio State just released its weekly award winners for the Youngstown State game:
Offense: TE Rory Nicol -- he must have had a great blocking day, as his receiving stats (1 for 14) weren't stellar. It was a nice catch, though.
Defense: LB Marcus Freeman. The improvement he's made from early last year to now is impressive.
Special teams: Ray Small. What does Ryan Pretorius have to do to win this? Kick a game-winning 85-yard field goal? He only booted four field goals and bailed out an offense that sputtered in the red zone. Small did have a nice 45-yard punt return that would have been about 65 without the block in the back penalty.
Attack force: DT Nader Abdallah.
Offensive lineman: Alex Boone
Hit of the week: CB Malcolm Jenkins, who punished WR Ferlando Williams rather than go for the ball and the interception.
