Game Thread Ohio State 37, Penn State 17 (final)

I agree. Branch and Woodley were all-timers. I'm guessing you were at a loss for words on 11/18 and during the Rose Bowl in much the same way we were on 11/18 and during the MNC game. :)

I hope that game goes in a similar fashion to this weekend's game. I don't think we have to score early and often to get the crowd out of it, really. Just a few big hits on Morelli, getting him scared, should shut them up very quickly.

It was surprising for sure. Though Branch was nimble enough to catch a carom off a helmet for a pick against OSU.

I think Robiskie could have a big day. King struggles with bigger receivers (see Hardy, James) and Robiskie is big enough and athletic enough to give him fits.

Paterno's star still shines brightest

By Kyle Nagel
Staff Writer

At one point during his weekly meeting with the media Tuesday, Joe Paterno commented on his discomfort with some of the surroundings.
"Do we really need these bright lights?" said Paterno, the Penn State football coach.

Buckeyes know win won't end debate
Jim Naveau | [email protected]
- 10.25.2007

[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]COLUMBUS ? If Big Ten football teams were a pitcher, the scouting report would be that they have lost their fastball.
If they were a sprinter, the word would be that they?ve lost a step. If they were a boxer, the conventional wisdom would be that their punches don?t land with the power they once did.
That?s what happens when your No. 1-ranked team loses 41-14 to an underestimated Florida team in the national championship game. That?s what happens when Michigan loses to Appalachian State and gets blown out by Oregon.
Despite the doubters and detractors, Ohio State has returned to the top of the polls and the Bowl Championship Series standings.

IF U. GO: Penn State

Thursday, October 25, 2007 3:51 AM
By Tom Reed

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
In a nutshell

The last time Ohio State fans saw Joe Paterno, he was high-tailing it across the Horseshoe to bring new meaning to the phrase, "Joe Must Go." Now Buckeyes fans must go to see Joe in State College, Pa. Nestled in the central Pennsylvania hills, State College is scenic and sleepy -- except on Penn State football Saturdays. Paul Keels returns to the If U. Go lineup with another restaurant recommendation, and road-tested readers submit suggestions as well. We've got great ice cream, wildlife and New York strip steaks as thick as Joe Pa's glasses. Pack your bags.

Penn State defense on a roll

Penn State defensive end Maurice Evans, bottom, and linebacker Sean Lee, top, sack Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Donovan during the Nittany Lions' 38-7 win Oct. 13.

Penn State defensive end Maurice Evans hit the big-play trifecta at Indiana on Saturday when he sacked quarterback Kellen Lewis, forced a fumble, picked up the ball and took off toward the Hoosiers' end zone. He failed to cash in, though, when his rumbling 55-yard sprint toward the end zone ended with him getting caught from behind at the Indiana 12-yard line.
The play probably earned Evans, a 6-foot-2, 257-pound sophomore, the Big Ten's player of the week award, but it also earned him a good ribbing from his teammates.
"We were clowning him, saying he's slow," safety Lydell Sargeant said. "He looked like a truck out there. He said he runs a 4.5. It looked more like a 5.5."

OSU notebook: Daniels wants QB, line to be positive
Coach encourages emotion, but not finger-pointing
Thursday, October 25, 2007 3:50 AM
By Ken Gordon

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

When it comes to the relationship between a quarterback and his offensive line, Ohio State quarterbacks coach Joe Daniels has two rules: Emotion is fine. Finger-pointing is not.
Last weekend, quarterback Todd Boeckman was blasted by Michigan State blitzers on two consecutive possessions, causing an interception and a fumble that the Spartans turned into touchdowns.
Though Ohio State won, there were a few touchy comments in the postgame locker room.
On the sack and fumble, guard Steve Rehring said if Boeckman had gotten off the planned screen pass before the blitzer arrived, "it's a touchdown." Boeckman, meanwhile, talked about how he usually has time for five quick steps on that play, but the defender reached him in three.

I've actually heard, aside form the small seats, that watching a game in Ann Arbor isn't that bad at all. Friends of mine who went up for the game had a good time and said some UM fans were even courteous.

Right. Like the fans (for the most part), hate the team.

I know you don't like Michigan, but come on, that's offensive even by our rivalry standards.

1. ND

2. PSU
3. Every SEC school

I actually can tolerate OSU fans. You guys seem to have a pretty even keel as to when you're going to be really good and when you're just gonna be okay.

Exactly... only I would add,

#4) FSU/Miami
#5) Most other ACC schools

My thoughts were: "The end of the world is coming! Buckeye and Wolverine fans are being civil to each other!

... Oh wait, it must be Penn State week."

Any time one of us plays a team from Sniper's "RANKings" above, there is common ground.

PSU will aim to have Morelli work a lot of sideline routes, Morelli's "strength". Deep outs, sideline fades etc...Take that way and make him work the middle against some of your zone coverages and it's over. Unleash Vern and Morelli will be having nightmares

I'm going to have to disagree with you, Partner (as Musberger would say it). Outside of the Tampa 2, most coverages are designed to only give up the short/intermediate outside routes. Of course, cover 1 is man-to-man under, so that wouldn't really count as a shell coverage.

People around me were very cordial. You get an older, more mature crowd at their games.

As evident by our stadium, an older, more mature crowd isn't necessarily a good thing.

Only up here can we have have 105,000+ and still be quieter than a 50,000 person stadium.

Yeah, but I mean you need to take away the outside routes, that's all Morelli knows how to throw. Morelli can't put any touch on crossing routes or anything like that, so if you work on taking away the outside routes, it's over. Mind you, this game is over before it starts IMO.
