Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

I would not doubt Norm Chow.

I worry most about the next generation of Trojan receivers stepping in guys like Hazleton, Johnson, Williams and Ausberry. Williams I think will be a game breaker for them.

Marc Tyler I think is their sleeper back. He could be a great one

I wonder if they can overcome the Mitch Mustain mom factor.

offensive line is a position where it really doesn't matter if you've a couple back ups who have some game experience. An oline needs chemistry, and must trust each other. Sure I can see why you think it won't be a huge deal on September 13th but I think its a bigger deal than ya'll think. Offenisve line is one of those things where you can't really just plug a guy in and assume everything is status quo. Also Sanchez isn't moble is he? He never looked very mobile to me when I watched?

Also when are you going to have a quarterback who doesn't have to wear big bulky knee braces? I mean there has to be some QB's out there with blown out knee's? Wtf every year ya'll have a QB who reminds me of Jake Taylor from Major League.
Sanchez is probably the most mobile qb we have had in awhile. The most mobile qb on the roster is aaron corp. Like methomps said, the knee braces are a team requirement. Preventitive maint.:)

He did, but that was spring practice. For me, I will wait until a real game to give a better opinion.:)

If I'm reading that right, it shows that the Buckeyes did not give up a single TD in the regular season when the opponent got the ball on our side of the 50. Not bad

I believe that it's true. I looked up the possession that started inside our 10 that didn't produce points, it seemed too good to be true. It was from the Minny game, Beanie fumbled at the 7, Minny lost 3 on a run then threw 3 incompletions. We were up 30-7 in the 4th, so a FG wouldn't have meant anything. I think that is a factor in the overall stats, a lot of games we were up by too much for the opponents to settle for FGs. I just read on CFN's preview that our D only gave up 3 rushing TDs last year. I believe the 02 team gave up 5, and I thought that was a mark that would never be beaten.

2007 Fun Stats:
- Rushing touchdowns: Ohio State 21 - Opponents 3

Unbelievable that we might improve on that proportion this year.

:oh:

Several teams have given up only 5 rushing TDs in a season since 2001.

Auburn gave up 4 rushing TDs in 2004.

No one else has given up fewer than 5 since 2001.

While CFN's preview was fair in saying that our DT's were mediocre last year (they predict significant improvement), 3 rushing touchdowns is not something that happens if they're really bad.

Bad by Buckeye standards? OK

But 3 rushing TDs is good to the point of unmatched; and you can't say no other team in I-A has had a crap-fest of a schedule in the past 7 seasons. Sure we had a soft schedule in '07, but 3 rushing TDs is STILL sick.

With the improvement in the DTs this year (knocks on wood), we have to be odds-on favorites to lead the nation in rushing D this year; and probably by a significant margin.

When I said "never be beaten", I meant by another OSU team, but I'm glad it prompted you to look up those stats. Granted, we did dodge a couple of bullets named Sutton and Hill last year, but 3 rushing TDs is impressive on any level. It's easy to lose perspective of just how good our defenses have been over the last few years, since the bar has been set so high. Some stats jump out because they seem improbable. One that comes to mind was in 06 when we didn't allow a single point scored after a turnover until the UM game. This years D is primed to be one of the best in recent history, and I'm sure they know it. I was a bit surprised at how high the DTs were rated by CFN. Sounds like they think experience and the emergence of Larimore will have a big impact. I couldn't find the USC preview on CFN, so I assume it's on the way. It will be interesting to see how the teams stack up in Fiutak's eyes. Considering he gave OSU's RB corp a 10, I guess he'll have to pull a Spinal Tap and go to 11 for USC, since they have 4 RBs and a frosh TE who are better than Beanie. :slappy:
