Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

You're on the money.....OSU replaced some very valuable people, and the kids responded very well. Well past even the lofty OSU fan base expectations. But that's what you recruit for. SC has the same 2's and 3's that OSU has (actually more highly rated), so it's not inconceivable that the SC kids do as well. In retrospect, don't think many would have projected that Boeckman, the two Brians, etc. would have done as well as they did. We'll see about the SC kids. The potential is definitely there, and the motivation, so we'll see how well the 'rubber meets the road'.

You sure its not 'rubbers'?

"but when you replace 2 all american dlineman you're not going to be as good". I sorta agree with your comment except that last year, the bucks had to replace a couple of pretty good receivers, and a heisman qb, and they did pretty well, dont you think? I think anything is possible, so we will see.:)

True, but we also changed our gameplan over night as well. Gone were the days of 5 wideouts and we went to a power/play action attack. I see USC doing a very similar approach, especially on defense. Being realistic your defensive line will not be 1/2 of what it was last year so I'd look for a lot more blitzing from the linebacking position from USC. We know exactly how easy it is to overlook the fact that the defensive line is a little green. In 2004 for example we had AJ Hawk, Carpenter, and Schlegal coming back. We figured we were going to be sick regardless if our line only returned 1 starter (in your case 2). Well after a 3-0 start almost all us buckeye fans could still see there was an issue with experience with our line which was a big part of the reason we went on a 3 game slide

Also if Clay Matthews is playing Defensive end the front 7 for USC will get destroyed if we run straight at them. If I was a USC fan I'd like to see USC keep standard D-ends in the game to take on the size of our front. No offense boys but Matthews would be in trouble if he lined up against our left side of the line (Both 6'8" 320+)

On offense again ya'll lost what? 2-3 starters? If I had a guess what USC will do I'd bet that they use Mcknight on a lot of draws/screens because the pressure should be there from our front 4. Also I'd think USC will be having TE's and RB's in to help the oline out as well.

I mean who in the hell really knows? All the players filling in may surprise us all and exceed expectations or they might not be as good as ya'll think. Either way it'll be a one score game either way. :oh:

I bolded the part of your statement where we can find common ground.

But "they did pretty well" is pretty subjective.

In 2006, Ohio State was 26th in total offense and 8th in scoring offense.

In 2007, Ohio State was 62nd in total offense and 41st in scoring offense.
"Pretty well"?

OK, fine. And I expect your D-Line to do "pretty well".

Now we're back to our common ground where "pretty well" is something less than they did last year. Fair enough?

I dont think our d-line will be half of what it was,of course it will be hard to replace sed ellis, but what most dont realize is fili moala started I believe 12 or 13 games, and griffen is replacing lojac at end. Spicer or Tupou will play ng, and personally I think clay mattews will do fine standing up. On offense we should be better, but that obviously depends on sanchez. Special teams always worries me, because you never know how seriously the guys will take them. Not trying to be sarcastic, but I think, or hope most buckeye fans will be surprised. I n a good way for the Trojans!:)

I guess I left out alittle part of what I was getting at when I said "pretty well", 2 strait mnc games. I think that is pretty good, especially last year when everyone was saying it was a rebuilding year. I hope that explains my previous comments better.:)

And your(sic) only doomed if you play stanford.
Dang! Dont have to tell me! Look back about 30 years in SC's history, and you will find more than one upset to stanford! Thats why I call stanford "tree huggers", or I tell their rude fans to go "hug a root!" I believe stanford has been a bigger thorn in SC's side than the fUCLA bRUINS.:) And on the last post I was joking with bleed s&g not flaming.:)

Appreciate the clarification, but I was already pretty clear on that. Your sense of "humor" took us a while to get used to, but most of us are just playing along at this point.
I just wasnt sure. My wife hates my sense of humor! I tell her, "sure you do, thats why you stuck around 22 years"! She says "no, its cheaper to keep you", and I said "who you tellin"! I thought the guys always got screwed in a divorce! Hope I dont find out!:)

With the Trojans, we'll see how well the 'prophylactics meet the pavement'. :tongue2:
