Been in LA for a couple days now and the weather has been unusually cool. Game day forecast for the section of LA where the Colosseum is located is a high of 79 and a low of 62, so kickoff temps should be low 70s and game end temps should be mid to upper 60s. No rain. Weather not a factor at all.

Wish they could say the same thing in Houston...a brief pause in the football talk from me to everyone in that area, including our former board friends from Austin...hope you are all OK after Ike hits :(

wrong wrong wron, the screen pass/toss sweep are not the major key to the game...

Screen passes can be extremely effective if USC likes to blitz with a lot of players. However, toss sweeps will not work very well.

Anyway, OSU has to be very creative with their passing game to be able to move the ball. Hopefully, Todd Boeckman will have the time to scan the field while the receivers can create separation.

Also, hope Beanie Wells will be ready to play.

A big thing for me is that you know Tressel runs a vanilla offense early in the season against the lesser opponents. I'm curious to see what wrinkles he has put in for this game. I think he will go after SC early.

I'd love to see more 4 receiver sets w/ Robo or Hartline, Small, Posey, Dane. Saine in the backfield by himself. Then hit Ballard for a big gain!

I hope we don't try screen passes a lot. We couldn't effectively do them against OU, so I'm not confident we'll be able to against USC's speedy D.

I would love to see us try to hit them on the D ball early. I'm talking like If we have 3rd and say 5 from our 40 on the first drive, send Robo, Small, or Hartline deep and go for it. Who cares if it gets picked at SC's 20 ya know.... but if it works and we get in the red zone... we could potentially set the tone as well as take some of the air out of the fans.

I expect lots of wrinkles ... like the pony, the zone-read, and maybe even some crossing routes by the wide receivers. You know, all the really sophisticated stuff we haven't seen yet.

At least, it is my hope we go to the true VY-era Texas/WVU/Oregon zone-read. I hope to God we didn't recruit Terrelle Pryor to run the sideline-to-sideline option offense my junior high team ran when I was in the seventh grade!

I've been reading about play calling in a lot of threads. Play calling won't doom tOSU execution will. If the OL,QB,RBand WR execute we will be successful.Afterall the play caller has won 4 straight against scUM, won multiple NC's, beat PU with the Holy Buckeye. That being said I do hope the defensive game plan is aggressiveGO BUCKS!

I've been living down here for 3 months now, and my question is what's weather? It will be cloudy on the coast through the afternoon, sunnier at the Coliseum, nice and pleasant.

I've watched the OU game 4 times now (actually watching right now), and I have to say, it's not nearly as bad as it seemed on game day.
In fact, the more I watch it, the more encouraged I get.

Carson Palmer: Why the Trojans will win

Posted: September 12, 2008
By Carson Palmer (as told to Chick Ludwig)
For Sporting News

Sporting News correspondent Chick Ludwig caught up with Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, a former USC QB who won the Heisman Trophy in 2002, for his thoughts on Saturday's Ohio State-USC game. Here's why Palmer thinks USC will win.
"They're the best-coached team in the country, hands down.
"They have coaches that you just love to play for, coaches that you love to win for, coaches that you lay it all on the line for. From technique and philosophy and game-planning and game-scheming wise, it's as good as it gets at that level.
"They're extremely athletic. They're fast. They have a whole bunch of No. 1 recruiting classes year after year, so you know they've got talent.
"I know Ohio State's in the same boat. They've had No. 1, 2 and 3 recruiting classes. But anytime you combine some of the best talent with the best coaching ... SC has the edge.
"Quarterback Mark Sanchez is a great player. Ohio State's got a good quarterback, too, (in Todd Boeckman). Sanchez is just so athletic. He has such a nice arm and he's got so much good stuff around him with the offensive line, three tailbacks who could all be starters, and good receivers.
"They're young receivers, but immensely talented receivers. They might not be the best in the county now because they are young. But once they're with that coaching staff and really buy into that system and understand it, they're going to be real good.

Shouldn't Carson Palmer be worried about that fucking awful team he plays for now in the NFL? He's been running his mouth an awful lot about this game.

The playcalling is my biggest concern. If I see Mo Wells take a hand-off up the gut, I'm going to need an antacid. I think he should strictly be used on misdirection plays or out on the perimeter. Bollman, Tress, and Boeckman, I beg of you; please use the TE's. I don't think we need trick plays and crazy formations. Jake Ballard is a bitch to bring down. Using him and Nicol on 5-10 yard crossing patterns are high pctg. plays and will help open things up. It kills me we don't use them more. I'm having a difficult time trusting the coaches. :paranoid:
