Game Thread Ohio State 24, Penn State 7 (final; 11/07/09)

We are going to see run, run, pass, punt. I don't think Coach Tressel trusts Terrelle right now to have him try anything downfield. Penn State is going to load up the box with 9 guys and dare Ohio State to throw. If they can land a couple of throws down the middle behind the LBs and in front of the safety then things could open a little bit, but Terrelle hasn't been able to make those throws with any consistency. Screens? Maybe, but those haven't been utilized much this season. I see no reason that Coach Tressel would break character on the road in what is going to be a very hostile environment. This is going to be a buttoned up game if there ever was one.

The entire weight of this game is on the defense and I'm afraid that we are going to see them put in some very difficult positions tomorrow. If the defense can create some turnovers and give the offense some short fields to work with to (hopefully) create a couple of scores then that takes PSU out of their game plan a bit. Clark is emotional and I'm not sure he can keep it together if the D is able to get after him. The same can be said of our guy, though.

Is it just me, or does it seem that after the first game the Buckeyes offense has abandoned throwing to the TE? Ballard went for 3 catches and 51 yards in game 1, and has 6 catches for about 50 yards in 8 games since. I wonder if they aren't game planning the tight end, or if Pryor just isn't using them. Someone mentioning 9 in the box made me think of that, because you would sure think there would be some easy yards on quick strikes to the TE if that is the case.

Realized we needed the TE for pass pro more than we thought. The tackles inconsistency pulled the TE from the flood plays and put 2 WR's on the same side of the field.

I think Tress really wants this one... almost more than the other 2. I think he realizes the lynch pin that this could be for TP and I expect that he changes it up. If State Penn puts 8-9 in the box he will throw it over them. He will get TP out of the pocket like he did against Minny and give him the option to take it upfield or hit a WR. The power I fake has given TP the option to have this option open to him better than the zone read play. It cuts the field in half and gives him a better chance at a good read. 7 in the box and we run the ball. Either way I think we see something that we haven't seen.

I was very much hoping either this game or the following week when we host Iowa would've been a prime-time game.

Looks like the Iowa game's gonna come on @ 3:30 as well.
Well I'm sure as hell glad this one isn't a night game. Would have loved to seen next weeks been, though. But it's cold in November in these parts...so the Big Ten doesn't let night games happen in November, which I think is something they may want to rethink. No Big Ten teams play in prime-time in November. That's when Big Ten football is at it's best. I think waiving this rule could only help the Big Ten's elite get exposure that may help them rank #1 or #2 in this BCS era that we live in.

Agreed. For all the shit the Big Ten takes for being soft, they have had some great battles in the month of November.
