Game Thread Ohio State 24, Penn State 7 (final; 11/07/09)

Picked up this tidbit on a PSU site:

The only game in the last 10 of them vs. Ohio State where Penn State scored more than 1 offensive TD was the 2001 game whereby freshman QB Zack Mills led the team to 29 points.

All 9 of the other games vs. Ohio State this decade involve either 1 (7 times) offensive TD or 0 (twice) offensive TD's.

Penn State still has not beat us in consecutive games since they joined the conference. We've whipped their asses 37-17 and 24-7 our last two trips to Crappy Valley. Jim Tressel is 6-3 against Penn State. We're 11-6 against them in conference play.

Fuck Penn State.

We have won 3 of the last 4 and without TP's fumble it would be four straight against them. They are delusional. And I agree, the wins of late have been lopsided towards us (28-6, 37-17, 10-13, 24-7). Plus a heisman winning moment for Troy and TP making possibly their best defender look like a junior high player on his way to scoring while injured. They better be ready for another spanking come next year.

I really like this picture. If it has already been posted here I don't think anyone outside of BigWoof31 and PennState1985 would complain about seeing it again..

I love this commercial.

"Coach? You gonna join us?"

"I'm not sure who I like tomorrow. ... Whoa, this is soft! We got a winner!"

Just caught this in watching a replay of the bomb to Posey... In calling the action right before the play, McDonough says the two offenses were playing "rope-a-dope". Then right before our eyes Pryor shows everybody which ones are coming off the ropes, and which ones are the dopes. Very nice.

Some interesting stats about the suppossed OSU/PSU rivalry:

They have not scored more than 1 offensive touchdown against us since 2005, with the second of those coming on a 2 yard drive. Without that year, they haven't scored more than 1 offensive touchdown against Ohio State since 2001, Tressel's first year as head coach.

Offensive Touchdowns
2009: 1 (GL sneak)
2008: 1 (GL sneak)
2007: 1 (also scored on a kickoff return)
2006: none
2005: 2 (1 was a GL sneak on a 2 yard drive)
2004: 1
2003: 1 (also scored on a INT return)
2002: none

Now we haven't exactly lit up the scoreboard against them either, to be fair. In Tressel's tenure we are 6-3 against the Nittany Lions, with one of the losses coming in Tressel's first year.

Since Penn State brought in the "Spread HD" offense, they have averaged 10 points against us per game.

Overall since 2002, Penn State's offense has averaged 10.4 ppg against us. In comparison, our defense and PR/KR have averaged 5.25 points per game in the same time period.

Just thought that it was interesting that once you look at the numbers, PSU is not quite the daunting rival that we build them up to be year in and year out.

Look for me to do a similar numerical breakdown after the Iowa game. Go Bucks!
