I remember being in the Shoe when they were ripping out the Astro Turf. It was cold and we used anything that we could that was sharp to cut pieces out to take home for ourselves. I’m sure I still have a section, maybe 4in x 4in in a memory box somewhere at my parents house. I hope I find it again sometime.

Apparently the turf pieces are dropping in value.....

If you have something that you need to get rid of, and there are people who would be willing to buy it; why would you pay someone to haul it away?

I have no interest in it, but I'm glad they're not so incompetent as to miss the opportunity.

And I'm not casting aspersions here; there's a part of me that understands the people who want a piece of that turf, even though I would consider it an inconsequential bit of rubber (or whatever). This reminds me of the time I was walking out of Ohio Stadium after Woody's memorial there. A man who seemed old to me at the time, though probably about the age I am now, stooped down to touch the ground in the south end zone. He looked at me sheepishly as he did it, like there was a part of him who thought it was a weird thing to do; but I understood him more than he realized, even though I don't regret not doing it myself, even though, to the best of my knowledge, I've never touched any part of that field, let alone the end zone, with my hands. We all are sentimental about different things; and sometimes we're sentimental about the same things, but in different ways.

If you buy a piece of the field, God bless you. I understand. I will support The Ohio State University in different ways, but I understand.
