A girl at Iowa that played Herky the Hawk had her neck fractured at Ohio State by a band member in 1999. OSU ended up settling the case in 2002. There was another instance in Minnesota (again with Iowa) back in the mid 90s where a couple Gopher band members picked up Herky and rammed her head-first into the Metrodome goalpost a few times, then took the Herky head and beat on it like a drum for the rest of the game. At least in that instance the girl playing Herky wasn't injured. I remember one case about a decade ago where the mascot that got assaulted wound up being a 105 lb female -- I want to say this was a MAC game, but I can't remember.

Jumping on the back of another mascot is a no-no. The heads can weigh a lot and also limit the mascots' vision and balance. If the bit isn't scripted somebody could get seriously injured.

it was Brutus as he led the team and all of our players onto the field, right in the middle of one of Ohio State's traditions

if it was on the sideline during the game it would be a different story

the point is that the timing of the event, along with the other things I pointed out, took it out of "harmless prank" status

Pathetic that Brutus was able to stand back up, despite having Rufus on his back. Maybe it's tough to hold on with that costume on... But it's funnier to think Rufus is lame.

You guys need to begin conference play already. The fact that this thread is 4 pages long is crazy. Who cares what the mascots do?

I read on the Eastern Michigan boards that their mascot was planning to eat a sandwich on Ohio Field this saturday! OMG, can you believe that?
We'll be up by 40 points and ranked #2 in the country and he'll be eating a sandwich! So disrespectful. Why aren't we demanding our $800,000 ass kicking fee back?
