Game Thread Ohio 14, Ohio State 26 (Sept. 6)

Well, it seemed pretty plain to me that the Buckeyes had no intention of doing what might work to soften up Ohio's D except to wear them out. How many deep balls did they throw? 2? Ohio stacked against the run, and we ran it. Why? Because it seems OSU's attitude was "We're just better than you, and we will beat you because of it. Here comes the iso.. again.."

Furthermore, what tendencies does USC now have to look at?
1st down: Run
2nd down: Run
3rd down (and long, of course): Pass
4th down: Punt

Don't get me wrong, I understand no coach goes playing "hide the ball" at the risk of losing. That's not my point. My point is - the game plan for Ohio was clearly not to go out there with the whole playbook. I know this because even when it was getting to the point where a loss was becoming a serious possibility, our "trick play" was to send the TE on a mid to long out route and running draws/delays with Boom. It's not that the coaches can't figure out how to beat what a D is showing them... when they needed a score, they marched right on down and took care of it. And... then.. buttoned the play book right back up.

Well articulated. I can hardly suggest that I know enough of the ins and outs of what the coaches are willing to show upcoming opponents week in and week out. However, I do believe that they went into this game with a limited playbook. Not sure if it?s because of SC and not wanting to show cards, or simply because we were without Beanie.

I also do believe that there is a mindset that with the limited playbook we would take OU based on nothing more than strength, size and speed, evening being limited in what we were going to do on the field from a play standpoint. I?m not sure that I believe that anyone thought that it go into the fourth quarter to get it done.

Time will tell, we?ll all have our answers one week from today.

I do believe that the team will be up for the game, much as the UT games were hyped a few years ago, this will bring on the same kind of spectacular scene. The team will be ready, the play book is ready. What next week will come down to is execution and those guys being able to play within themselves.

All things considered, I feel pretty good about our chances next week after the OU game, and that?s including a round trip from Chicago to Columbus with a couple of kids in tow in about 72 hours.

:oh:

Think I'm going to make a commemorative shirt from the game, just because I hated hearing all of the stupid chants by OU people and seeing all of their lame "You are state we are ohio" shirts.

Front of shirt:

Sure we're still STATE
But on 9/6/08
We proved we're still the best of OHIO
Thanks OU for #800!

Back of shirt:

Ohio University, still just a drinking school with a football problem

The chant I remember from the OU fans was the tag on to

OH!

IO!

er

"U"

After a while I came to the conclusion that their supporters must feel deeply in debt to something ... as in

OH!

I O U

There were about 15 of us in the upper corner of the south stands that tried to make it OH! IO! Fuck! U! Didnt really catch on however.......

I feel that sportsmanship from an Ohio State fan does not include vulgarity.
Especially against another Ohio team whose players probably wished they had gotten a 'ship from tOSU.

That team Played their hearts out and I feel they should get the full respect they deserved.

Defense did their part, Offense and Place Kicking?

In what looked like a loss, Ohio State pulled out a win against a weak opponent in Ohio University this weekend with decent defensive play and five take-aways.

Not that any of us are unaware of the fact that Mark May is a douchebag, but on TWO different occasions yesterday the usless bag of garbage said that Beanie was on the sideline still in a protective boot. Really Marky? I guess Nike now makes protective boots that look exactly like their running shoes. Check your facts ESPiN, oh, wait a minute you aren't interested in facts are you.

I feel that when I see a picture of an OU player with a shirt that says "OS-Who?", that they can kiss my Buckeye lovin' ass.

I'm done with this thread. tOSU plays USC next week. OU got far more attention than they deserve. I for one, am not going to spend the week leading to one of the biggest non-conference games of my life talking about a win against FredOU.

I hope most will do the same, and divert focus to USC.

Well, if I've learned anything from watching Deety operate, it's that there are a lot of indirect ways to send a thread south...
