Buckeye football: Ohio U. can relate to OSU's injury woes

Bobcats invade Columbus on Saturday

By JON SPENCER ? News Journal ? September 1, 2008
COLUMBUS -- A sympathetic Frank Solich knows the apprehension Ohio State is feeling over the foot injury to star running back Chris ?Beanie? Wells. His Ohio University Bobcats are trying to recover from the loss of their own marquee back.

Judging from Saturday?s 21-20 loss at Wyoming, the healing process might take awhile.
The Bobcats, who take on second-ranked OSU Saturday in Ohio Stadium, were held to 39 yards rushing as they adjust to life without Kalvin McRae. A three-time 1,000-yard rusher, McRae finished his career in 2007 as Ohio?s all-time leading ground-gainer.

?We?re capable of getting some things done passing the ball,? Solich said during a Monday teleconference, ?but we need to get the running game squared away. If you?re one-dimensional, you?re going to have trouble moving the ball.

?We were only three for 13 in third down conversions. If you have a strong running game, that statistic is not going to be that low.?

GAME WEEK!!!

The only time I do not root for Ohio State. In honor I break out my Ohio avatar.
You're a brave man.

Unfortunately, I think the best performance we see out of Ohio U on Saturday is from the Marching 110. I like the Bobcats and am pulling for Frank to build something down in Athens, particularly because he got a raw deal at Nebraska. But the only way this one is close is if OSU is kicking FGs in the red zone again.

I'll go back to the same thing I said in the YSU thread. The days of OSU struggling to put away the Cincinnatis and Bowling Greens are over. This isn't 2002-2004 where we're playing the starters for four quarters to hang on against MAC teams.

The second string O-Line is the Brew Crew. The sixth and seventh and eighth options at WR are Posey and Washington and Thomas. OSU's 2008 roster is simply an embarrassment of riches, and even if JT wants to keep the score within 30 points, its not going to happen unless OSU is playing walk-ons the entirety of the fourth quarter. And at this point, the majority of walk-ons were still preferred recruits that declined scholarships elsewhere.
