True, he is committing July 19th and didn't take an official. Birm among multiple other sources have indicated Mcnutt had the desire to leave the state. Not just throwing random thoughts out but should have listed the rational. This isn't over until the ink is dry but not looking good.

I do think Eliano may be at least partially to blame here. Early on in his recruitment while Eliano was still the safeties coach, McNutt put it out there that he wasn’t hearing from OSU much at all. If you don’t make some of these kids an absolute priority from day one you’re stuck behind the eight ball indefinitely. And the fact he grew up loving OSU makes that perceived lack of attention sting a little more. Pair that with Oregon going H.A.M. at all of OSU’s biggest targets and dropping massive bags, and you have a recipe for this exact scenario.

Eliano seems to have dropped the ball on this one but hopefully it can be rectified. McNutt is the top safety in the nation and from Ohio, yet he was never made a priority. I get that we have the #1 class in the nation, but Oregon is going absolutely H.A.M. on us and taking Brew and McNutt would absolutely not be ok with me.

If McNutt does decide elsewhere, it’s likely to cause Ohio State fans to be in a similar mindset that Justin Hill’s recruitment provided. Again, it’s important to remember that guys like Faheem Delane, DeShawn Stewart, and Cody Haddad are all locked in as safety commits currently. Yes, landing the top-ranked guy who is an in-state product is the goal, but all would not be lost if that doesn’t happen.
Additionally, this is a recruitment that won’t totally be over until signing day. McNutt has made it known that he still plans to take an official visit to Ohio State this fall, regardless of if he is committed elsewhere. That said, don’t be surprised to see the Buckeyes still fighting late in the game for this one.

I agree partially with the Eliano slander. But I think McNutt has been dropping hints for months that he was never a lock to OSU regardless of the position coach. I distinctly remember reading an interview with McNutt where he said he sat down with his father and his dad asked him if he wanted to be a nationally ranked recruit with a national recruitment, or did he just want to stay local(hence go to OSU without looking at many other options). Trey wanted to be a national recruit, that’s when you see the quote where he said OSU isn’t showing a lot of love. Up until that time, he was an OSU legacy lock. But once he started hitting the 7v7 camp circuit, and traveled the country, his dad was able to help guide him to where would offer what he was looking for, regardless of the program. Let’s not forget that his dad is also a coach, so he sees through much of the recruiting BS.
Trey wanted to play early and get a massive NIL, and also set up an athletic brand. He can do the second 2 at OSU, not so sure he plays early at OSU.
But like @ScriptOhio said, this won’t be over until ESD. No way does Guerrieri give up on this one. There will be a spot for McNutt regardless of the numbers

100% You cannot blame him for loving all of the accolades that he is enjoying. That is where the Buckeyes tripped up, they just expected him to walk into the Woody and never leave.
First of all, he's way better than his father was and he needs to be courted that way. The Game has changed folks. The guarantees that used to be there aren't anymore. I hope the Bucks staff realizes that now and modifies all of our strategies.
He wants to come home but he wants the staff to show how much we want him as well.

It's fun to go back through the annals of time in recruiting. That was before I was old enough to even remember his dad's recruitment and rank.
But on Eliano, I just see this one as a recruitment that he has to win even if McNutt was never a lock. Brew just happened, we can't have this go sideways. Too early to say that's going to happen, but if we miss both Brew and McNutt then mission not accomplished even with a very good DB class on the books imo. JL and Hartline, and most of our staff, are getting the job done on that front. Report card is not finished yet and getting Delane can't be discounted, but this is just one we need to win on.
