2025 OH S Trey McNutt (Oregon Verbal)

Saw that write-up and started gnashing my teeth. No one likes being a foregone conclusion, she said at breakfast the next day....anyway, thought I'd add that bit of levity. tOSU legacy and an Ohioan to boot, not mentioning a #1 ranked safety is a trifecta that I'm certain tOSU is aware of. But doing a negative dance is a great way to manufacture click bait (suckered me in!). Hopefully he joins the fold. Need the Sanchezs to make a few calls. The other big schools are after him as well apparently, but I'd hope we lock him down sooner rather than later. Mayhaps he's enjoying the attention of big-time recruiting. Anyway, hope he doesn't miss out on something special, as this recruiting class is shaping up. Go Bucks!

Same school, Andre Walker(I think that was the OL last name that went to USC)
Wow, totally lost my recollection on that name but as soon as you said it, it hit me. We have to pursue McNutt hard to get him here, but we will go all out to get him here. I think we have a Buckeye legacy that enjoys the recruitment process, and I don't blame him. It's fun to get courted and go to all the campuses. But end of the day, you pick your home. And I think he knows where home is at when it comes time to make a decision.

I think Trey has entered the process as a blue chip recruit, and not an OH blue chip recruit. And that's where many peoples frustration lies, yes he's a legacy, but I've read that his dad gave him the choice to look at this journey as an OH kid or as a top flight football player, and he chose the later. Imo, he's a kid who lives in OH must isn't in awe of going to OSU, he will truly go to the school who offers him a path to the NFL, PT, a great NIL and a chance at titles. It's up to the defensive staff to prove that OSU is the home for him, I think they can definitely do that. But it won't be the slam dunk many assumed

That's fair. Could end up like Spielman where dad vetoes a decision he doesn't like (thank the lord for that one), but it could be wide open. Smart to make it a business and life decision, but there's no better spot for him than OSU considering everything that matters to him even if he lived in China with no affiliation to the school. Not even bias, the best DBs are coming here for a reason.

But having some trepidation is not a bad idea. Let's see what he does.

Here's hoping Trey's father wears his tOSU t-shirt to the breakfast table each morning. Not pushing his kid where he matriculated is a plus on the parenting side. But also - is being there when the kid has some questions about the process, again not pushing, but noting that his frame of reference are the almighty Buckeyes. Or as RB notes, vetoeing a 'bad' decision on a destination of higher learning. Go Bucks!

I remember reading somewhere that Trey doesn’t even consider himself an Ohio kid. If I remember, he considers himself an Illinois kid.

Per AG at LR:
The vibe is that the longer this goes the better. Trey is likely taking this thing into the fall maybe to NSD. OSU is likely getting a fall OV.

my personal take is there’s a lot of pressure for Trey to go to OSU. I think because of that he has this feeling that he wants to carve his own path and if NSD was today I’m not sure it would be OSU as his pick. That said NSD is not today and I still think the Buckeyes have a shot to make this one happen.

Per 11w poster:
Ref. McNutt from what my guy heard....

Staff cleared some things up and feels better. It went from a trending away situation to feeling comfortable about getting him to visit this fall. He's not playing games and is unsure about his decision. Let the visit speak for itself and the process play out.

I wouldn't read too much into the "an Ohio kid wanting to leave Ohio." That's an opinion based upon historical precedent. He's enjoying the visits and staff feels comfortable they win in the end.
