OH RB Jordan Marshall (ttun Verbal)

It’s been a loud rumor in Cincinnati for months that he was scUM bound. I heard from co-workers around November ‘22 that scUM was leading due to academics, wanting to leave home and the way they utilize their RBs. I’m sure when he’s interviewed he’ll say essentially the same. I hate to admit it, but he fits the scUM offense much better than he would with OSU & Day, IMO. He will get fed the ball, and not have to share many carries when he’s the starter. At OSU he would have to share the ball, catch in spac, and have to block defenders. He’s a mix of Corum and Hart for them. SWD can play that role of a bruiser with decent speed (a lower tier type of Marshall), and Peoples will be the stud RB in ‘24(though there are still several other top options as well)
I had heard it, too.

Yeah I know that was going around for a bit, but my guy in Cincy who is well connected with the players there told me back I think it was in October that Marshall was highly unlikely to land in Columbus (and he's a huge OSU fan). At that time, ttun wasn't in the lead, but Ohio State was trailing the pack. Either way, he was never coming here. And I agree that it is tough to admit it, but he probably does fit into ttun better than here...we would've schemed to his talent somewhat, but ttun's offense is already built for his game.

Peoples is an absolute must at this point and we look good there thankfully...Peoples fits our system well and the talent level is equivalent with Marshall, if not better. The big thing with Marshall was a top Ohio kid getting away, but you can't reel in a big fish if they were never on the hook (I'll go with that analogy). But if we get Peoples, I think we need to let that sentiment go.

I think another aspect of this is when Ryan Day stating publicly he's emphasizing recruiting the state of Ohio and then shortly there after have a top 10 kid in the state with an offer leave for your rivals isn't a great PR look ... regardless of the fit football wise.

They got 7 of the top 8 kids in 2023 in-state, that's enough to make Tressel blush. 2024 was always shaping up to be a big year for UM in Ohio due to the parochial schools having their best crop of talent in many, many years.

Fully agreed. But I think what will be even bigger, is that even though we didn't get Marshall, there are several OH OL who OSU will land.

PR doesn't win NCs, talent does. And OSU is set to bring in a RB just as talented as Marshall. Bama just signed a kid from GA and was a UGA legacy. I know its hard for some fans to fathom, but just because he's from OH, doesn't mean he was ever coming to OSU. OSU was playing catch up from the start, and Birm has said as much. scUM has been after Marshall for years, while Alford just started recruiting him last fall. Fickell has been recruiting Marshall since damn near middle school. Things happen, and OSU will end up with an OH RB in '24 and 2 in '25.

Yeah I get the perception issue but on this one it was never going to happen, so I don't see any actual problem with our image in Ohio. There will be a lot of Ohio commits in this class. Going to the rival is the sting, he's likely going to tear it up there and hopefully not against us, I just don't need any flashbacks to Woodson please.

Wandered onto a UX board the other day, with '10 players UX plans to sign'. Three already from Ohio, and three more, that tOSU feels are theirs. The two CBs - one from Glenville, and the other from the Dayton area(?) are on that list. Hope it doesn't happen, but there's no accounting for some kids choices.
