OG Tegra Tshabola (Official Thread)

https://howtheyplay.com/team-sports...rm length is measured from,of 30 to 34 inches.

Arm length is measured from the end of the bicep or shoulder blade to the tip of the middle finger with the arm extended. The average arm length for a male is around 30 inches. The arm length of most NFL players is in the range of 30 to 34 inches. There can be players at both the extreme ends of the spectrum. There is Doug Brien, whose arms are only 27.88 inches in length, and Alex Barron, who has an unbelievable arm length of 37.75 inches.

He stands at 6-foot, 5-inches, and 344-pounds with 35-inch arms. If it wasn’t already obvious those are more than ideal traits for an offensive tackle.

One of the most important traits for an OT are arm length. Tshabola has no problem in that era either, not to mention he easily has the size at 6’6 330lbs

Im no O Line expert but it seems to me like he could slide inside eventually. Or am I mistaken here? I know he has the measurables to be outside but I wonder how good his feet are.
I think he's best suited at RT, but more than capable to play in the interior with his size and strength. For this season, our strength is at guard and center though, so I would be surprised if we played him anywhere but OT this year other than to prepare for any injuries (which we typically do so he could move inside if needed), we need him at OT moving forward.

Bump.

He's the most important player not already set as a starter IMO. For the record, I don’t consider there is any difference between RB1 and RB2 so with that in mind I think the most important guy who can emerge in fall camp is this big fella.

Then let Josh and Luke battle for the open guard spot.

That’s the ideal scenario to me.

“NOBODY CARES” ATTITUDE DRIVING TEGRA TSHABOLA FORWARD IN OHIO STATE'S RIGHT GUARD COMPETITION

147235_h.jpg

Tegra Tshabola’s approach this offseason has been one of indifference.

Not indifference in terms of apathy, that’s not something the third-year offensive lineman can afford as he competes for a starting job along the right side of Ohio State’s front five.

His indifference is toward the excuses he could make for himself on a given day. As cliché as it may sound, Tshabola says it's a daily commitment to set aside whatever negative feelings he may have and attack each workout, each practice and each film session.

“Nobody cares how you feel. Nobody cares where you think you should be. Nobody cares what you’re going through,” Tshabola said in April. “Just take the field and go as hard as you can because too many people are invested in you to not go hard. Too many people are invested in everybody on this field. There are many steps that had to take place for us to get here. To not go hard is almost a disrespect to those guys.”

Right in the thick of Ohio State’s right guard competition alongside Carson Hinzman and Luke Montgomery entering the fall, the 327-pound Tshabola is attempting to plow ahead full force and stake claim to the starting job.

“He’s competing his butt off. He’s kind of living that way,” offensive line coach Justin Frye said. “That’s why we have that red line over there. When you cross the line, and Coach Day talks about that here, the game doesn’t care. You have to come out and do your job. The game doesn’t care about anything off the field. That can sound negative and harsh, but then if you spin your tone, isn’t it beautiful that the game doesn’t care? It doesn’t care about your skin color, your socioeconomic background or where you come from. If you do it the right way, the game will love you back. … For Tegra, he’s taken that approach. He wants to come in and be the guy.”

Ryan Day Says He's “Excited” About What Tegra Tshabola Did This Offseason As He Competes for the Starting Right Guard Job

148129_h.jpg

Tegra Tshabola has had to stay patient.

While the 6-foot-6, 327-pound offensive lineman appeared in all 13 games last season on special teams, Tshabola has yet to start a game on the Buckeyes' offensive line in his Ohio State career after coming to Columbus as a near top-100 prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.

But that may change this fall. Tshabola is one of the frontrunners to start at right guard this season for Ohio State and has put in significant effort this offseason to prepare himself for the opportunity.

“He wants to be here. He wants to be a contributor to Ohio State,” Ryan Day said on Thursday. “It does matter. There are different places he could have gone and tried different avenues, but he stuck with it and it’s going to pay off for him if he continues to get better and show discipline and consistency. We’re excited about what he did this offseason. He’s gonna have every opportunity to become a major contributor on offense.”

“I think the first thing is you show that you know what you’re doing,” Day said on how Tshabola can seize a starting spot. “And that’s the first level of learning, do you know what you’re doing? I know that sounds simple, but you have to know your assignments cold. There’s a lot of preparation that goes with that. I think he’s done that.

“The second thing is, how do you do it? The technique, the calls, there’s so much that comes with how to do your job. And can you do it consistently over time? Tegra has shown that he can do it. He’s shown he knows what he’s doing. The big question is now after going through this preseason, he’s changed his body some. He’s had a good offseason. Reports have come back good … When they get tired, they have to stay focused. Because we know we’re going to wear teams down this year and win games in the fourth quarter. If that’s our goal, then we have to be able to do that, especially up front with the offensive line. If he can show consistently this preseason he can do that, he’s going to find himself in games.”

Ryan Day Says Right Guard Competition Is Not Decided But Tegra Tshabola “Earned the Right to Play” Against Akron

148488_h.jpg

Tegra Tshabola will see playing time in Week 1, even if the right guard competition isn't completely decided for Ohio State.

After an offseason of work and some impressive performances in preseason camp, the 6-6, 327-pound behemoth is positioned for playing time, per Ryan Day. Day hopes to name a starter named after Ohio State's final preseason intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.

"I think he's definitely going to play at guard," Day said. "Whether he starts, we'll probably decide here coming off of Saturday. But he's definitely going to play unless something drastic were to happen. I think he's earned that opportunity.
"How much and if it's the whole game, again, we'll decide that as we get probably through the weekend. But for sure, he's earned the right to play in this game."

Carson Hinzman, who started at center last season for Ohio State, remains Tshabola's main competition for the full-time starting job.

There's a lot of athletic upside with Tshabola, a four-star prospect ranked 104th overall and 10th at offensive tackle in the recruiting class of 2022. He has great feet and mobility for his massive frame, enough that he competed to start at right tackle last season before sliding inside to guard this year.

“Tegra's really athletic and can really sink his hips, and he's long,” Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly said last week. “He's really long, and when you can play long on the offensive line and keep defensive linemen away from people because of your length, that's a really big deal for us.

“We like offensive linemen that are big, because big people beat up little people. So we like Tegra a lot.”

Should Tshabola start when Ohio State opens its season against Akron next week, it will be the first start of his career. He played in all 13 games as a backup offensive lineman last season for a total of 32 offensive snaps. The Buckeyes' other four starters on the offensive line are already solidified, with Josh Simmons at left tackle, Donovan Jackson at left guard, Seth McLaughlin at center and Josh Fryar at right tackle.

Tegra Tshabola Named Ohio State’s Starting Right Guard

148485_h_0.jpg

Tegra Tshabola will be Ohio State’s starting right guard for the first game of the season.

Ohio State’s biggest lingering position battle was settled on Tuesday when Ryan Day named Tshabola as the Buckeyes’ right guard to begin the 2024 season, though Day said he expects Ohio State to use more than five offensive linemen in the season opener against Akron on Saturday (3:30 p.m., Saturday).
