Officials: Dad kills neighbor accused of molesting girl

Let the cards fall...
This is a pretty disturbing story. It reminds me a lot of the movie, "A time to kill".......if this Edington guy did moleste the 2 year old girl, I can't say that I blame the father for going nuts. I think that I would probably be tempted to do the same thing.

Officials: Dad kills neighbor accused of molesting girl
POSTED: 7:28 p.m. EDT, August 30, 2006

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut (AP) -- A lawyer climbed through a neighbor's bedroom window and stabbed him to death after being told by a family member that the man had molested his 2-year-old daughter, authorities say.

Barry James, 58, was stabbed in the chest nearly a dozen times Monday. The lawyer, Jonathon Edington, 29, was charged with murder and burglary and was released on $1 million bail Wednesday.

Capt. Gary MacNamara said that police had not received a complaint about the child being assaulted before the killing, and "we have no indication it's true or not true."

Edington's attorney, Michael Sherman, said the information came from Edington's wife. "The daughter gave the mother information which was alarming and disturbing. The mom relayed it to her husband. That was the spark," Sherman said.

James' 87-year-old mother discovered his body. When officers went to Edington's home, they found him standing by his kitchen sink with what appeared to be blood on him, and a large kitchen knife next to him on a counter, authorities said

"He's in shock," Edington's attorney said. "This is the most unexpected turn of events one can imagine with this young man's background."

Police had gone to the neighborhood before, when Edington called to complain that he could see James through a window, police said. "Either he was partly clothed or revealed parts of his anatomy that were inappropriate," MacNamara said.

Edington, a graduate of Syracuse University and Fordham University Law School, has been practicing patent law, Sherman said. Police said Edington has no criminal record.

Rita James declined to comment on her son's death.

James served two days behind bars in 2001 on a drunken driving charge, according to the state Correction Department.

"He had some bizarre behavior over the last month," said Darrell Maynard, a neighbor. "He drove his car through his garage, hit the other neighbor's building."

Another time a neighbor found James intoxicated on the street, Maynard said. James shouted obscenities at children, he said.

As for Edington, Maynard said: "Something had to happen that was terrible for this to have occurred." Edington "seemed like a computer geek or something. He was not anybody you would ever feel you were threatened by."

If the neighbor did it, then good for the father. If there was a communication problem between the mother and the 2 year old then he is really hating it. If he is a patent lawyer he better invent something to protect his ass...

I guess Edington will know what it feels to be sexually assaulted himself in prison. :slappy: :slappy:

Another lawyer getting it in the ass. Perfect.

How would you react to someone telling you that your 2 year old daughter was molested? I'm not sure that I would kill someone, but it would probably cross my mind. I get your gig here, you always want to be the guy who raises eyebrows with his comments. A lot of the time you do it just to piss people off, and I laugh at most of it. I agree with you some of the time, and I have accepted the fact that you do it for a stir, you've been around a long time.....so have I.

All joking aside, how would you react in Edington's situation?

Yeah, I'm going to stab somebody one hundred times so that my daugther not only has to deal with being abused but also growing up without a father at home.

This truly sad situation needed to go farther than the dad listening to what the little girl told her mom and reacting to it. In a past life, I worked 10 years for Childrens Services investigating these types of matters. I don't know that any jury in the world is going to be sympathetic to the dad unless some type of physical evidence arises, and even in that case I think the guy is cooked.

As a father of a 6 year old girl, I can honestly say that if info like this about her had ever reached me, that it would certainly cross my mind to kill the bastard, but I don't ever see myself actually acting on that urge. If true, I think any parent would be much better served to attend to and support their child. Kinda hard to do from behind prison walls.

I don't blame the guy for going off, and I would think, or hope, that he would be sure enough that the neighbor actually did molest his daughter before going over and killing him.

If it was me, and I had a daughter that was molested by an old man neighbor, I would definitely be urged to go over and take things into my own hands. I don't know if I would kill him, but I would definitely break a few knees and unleash some fury on him.

Yeah, because he seems like somebody rational enough to make that decision....
