Official FIFA 2010 World Cup Discussion

Huge injury news as we move into the final week before the World Cup 2010.

Ivory Coast's Drogba is out with a broken arm.

And England's Rio Ferdinand is out with a knee injury.

Hurts those teams big time. England a little less because they are stacked and can go about filling that hole in a variety of ways. Ivory Coast...done.

Ivory Coast is NOT done. Don't believe the ESPN BS that they are just a one man team.

The little known, but next to blow Gervinho will be the next big player to come from the Coast. They have both Toure brothers, Eboue, and a host of young talent. I still like them to advance.

Besides, IDK if Drogba is going to be out for the tourney anyway. They could find a way to get him on the field if the results come back not as serious as they thought.

I could see Greece advancing as well.

Young players you guys are gonna keep an eye on? Mine are Gervinho, Ben Arfa, and GOURCUFF. I think Gourcuff could be the next Kaka.

Don't see how these are dark horses, really... from my view Greece and Serbia are the second best teams in their group... though Ghana or Nigeria getting through wouldn't be a big upset either... I mean, those are kind of coin toss groups, really.

Ivory Coast would be a dark horse... I don't see them as all Drogba... but... Portugal and Brazil was a pretty tall order before... just got tougher. NOt to mention that the North Koreans might show up quite literally Radioactive.

Serbia has a pretty good group, they've just got to beat out Ghana. I think the loser between Ghana/Serbia is out along with the Aussies.

I fully expect Serbia to make it out of their group. This is probably one of the best defensive teams out there. If I remember correctly, they gave up the fewest goals of any team in UEFA qualifying. Their back 4 are simply great. Vidic, Ivanovic, Kolarov & Lukovic are a tough group to crack. All 4 play for top clubs and they have 3 very good replacements. The major question has been and will be can they score enough goals.

Rossi was left off of Italy. Hope it works out for him, because he probably would've made the U.S. roster (most likely in 2006 as well).

Rossi could have been the Beckham of the US if he'd played his cards right. Now anyone that follows soccer that isn't Italian American hate's that POS.

USA USA USA

I know one thing, after living in England during the 2006 World Cup, if the US pulls the upset, there will be a lot sodded off cows in the pubs (little British slang for ya)

For the US to do any damage I think Stuart Holden has to play extremely well. Throughout all of the international matches I've seen, he's one of the few guys who can control the ball under pressure and make teams pay for over-aggressiveness. Even in our upset of Spain, our ball control was a joke. But Holden wasn't on the field...I think he is good enough to keep things under control against world powers with his dribbling and passing ability.
