Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

How the heck do you know that? We still have the combine, free agency, then the draft. How can you possibly know what teams will need and what they will be willing to offer?

Is that you Butch Davis?

Trading down is overrated and its what people that don't understand the draft say to do. Someone like the Vikings or Houston would have to give us:

Cleveland gives: 1st round pick (#4), 5th Round Pick

Houston/Minnesota gives: 1st Round pick, 2nd Round Pick, 3rd Round pick.

I can't see a team doing that, even for CJ.

personally trading up or down depends solely on the situation. honestly the browns have maybe three or four spots which are solid. other than that they have average players at best. i think you need to entertain the offers, but if the right offer isnt there, you cant take an ok one. you have to have someone who is willing to overpay. i know of in hockey a few times when franchises passed on good deals hoping for great deals.

moral of the story, the browns suck. i dont think it is wise to take a chance on a trade or a move, they need some certainty and a player who can play and have some sort of impact by november at the latest (see an aj hawk type player)

But if Eli were fantastic it wouldn't have been too much?? Truthfully, any GM who has to rely on a value chart for trades, is a GM I don't want....and any scout who values combine numbers more than game tape, is a scout I don't want....bottom line is this team has many holes it needs to replace, but it also needs to give the city of Cleveland something to be excited for...Adrien Peterson gives Cleveland something to be excited about and Troy Smith in the 2nd or 3rd does as well....whether or not its in the best inteerst of our team is pretty irrelevant to me, this team has had bad draft after bad draft, and picked players Browns fans are accustomed to hating while in college...they should do something to excite the city, not select a player we are forced to root for...I know a GM shouldn't pick based on fan "wants", but for the love of God, take someone we can get behind

The Browns would be wise to draft Troy in the second round with their second pick and get Branch in the first round. Troy would attract many fans immediately, and while they may not be good right away, his presence would certainly lure a broader fan base for years to come.

The real value of the Browns pick (if someone is willing to trade or not) will not be for BQ. It will come if Thomas or Johnson is there and a team really wants either of them. Johnson is the top talent in the draft and I could see a lot of teams looking to move in front of TB (assuming the coin flip goes Cleveland's way) to get him. Also, a lot of teams need O-Line help and Thomas is clearly the cream of the crop. If DT doesn't take him, Cleveland could move the pick.

There is an outside chance a someone could want to move up to take AP also, clearly the best RB in the class.

The reality of it is there are few trades that actually take place during the draft and even fewer at the top of the draft.

I think GM's are going to be cautious about trading up though. Was Eli Mannning worth Phillip Rivers, Shawn Merriman, and Nate Kaeding?

I don't think Thomas is in the same class as Peterson or Johnson either. Hes good, but his talent level isn't as high as either of those two. Its the desperation that teams have for a LT that puts him so high in the draft.

For our resident Quinn lover
"He's the biggest fraud in the draft," an NFL scout says of Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn
...
The Pro Football War Room lists his NFL comparison as Joey Harrington. Two scouts who cover Notre Dame for NFL teams believe Quinn should be a third- or fourth-round pick.
The most surprising criticism: Some scouts say Quinn--often painted as the perfect leader during his time in South Bend--wilts when the going gets tough.
Shocking :roll2:
