Official Bengals Draft Thread

I'm starting to think Marvin has the brain of a rodent when it comes to the draft.

Weak spot on the team - front 7

Picks taken for the front 7 - ZERO

Leon Hall is a good pick in round 1. As opposed to RBs, scUM DBs typically do well (Woodson, Law, Marlin Jackson is ok and he wasn't that great in college anyway). I can somewhat live with a RB in round 2, although it basically confirms that Sherry in the first round was a bust.

But QB in the fifth round? The Bengals have a tradition of drafting QB scrubs in the late rounds (Covington, Walsh, Bramlet) who end up doing absolutely nothing. This will fit the bill nicely.

I'll top that conundrum with the following. Where would you go to get a Strong Safety - Texas, a "speed" SEC team, a solid Big 10 player or perhaps out of the SEC?

No, somehow Ndukwe, the non-pugilist SS on a secondary cursed with poor technique is worthy of being picked.
(And yet again no picks of any significance to address the defensive line till # 187 in the 6th round, when Oregon's Matt Toeaina gets the nod).

Not defending Marvin, but Marvin is probably thinking there is enough "talent" on the front 7 for somebody to emerge.

Basically last year's turds who didn't play (Frostee Rucker and AJ Nicholson) are both healthy and not arrested, so they'll add to the mix.

Also, I think there is rumblings they might get Hartwell and maybe Odell is ready to contribute. that last one is a big if, but still.

But I'm still skeptical about any of this. Brooks needs to play well. But when Bustin Smith is your best front 4 guy and you're sinking 8 million into him for 1 year, you got problems.

I've got family who are bengal fans so I feel for you guys. Leon Hall will be as big or bigger bust than the last scUM player you took in the 1st round. I can't believe anyone who watched more than 5 minutes of tape on this guy thinks he's worth a damn.

As a Steeler fan I can't say too much, our draft sucked pretty bad as well but Hall is grossly overrated.

Uh, if you're going to compare him to other scUM players, makes more sense to compare him to players that actually played that position. But if you did, you'd realize that he probably won't be a bust. :roll1:

Thank you , come again.

It would make sense if you had taken another scUM DB in the first round that was a complete bust.

Let me rephrase: I think Leon Hall will be a bigger bust than Chris Perry the fact they both went to the same school and were first round draft picks of the Bengals is irrelevant.

But hey, 2 scUM DB's 10 years ago had decent NFL careers so there's nothing at all to worry about. I'm sure all those torchings Hall took vs OSU and USC were nothing at all. Ty Law and Woodson's careers are a much better indicator of the type of player Hall will be. :roll1:

Your post clearly shows how little you follow the NFL. By definition, it would be hard for Leon Hall to be a bigger bust than Perry...because Perry hasn't played at all.

I'm sure Shawn Springs torching by a mediocre player like Tai Streets told us all we needed to know about him. :roll1:

Just like David Boston acting like He-Man after burning Woodson told us everything about the future careers of those two.

So the Bengals don't play Perry because he's really good? Interesting concept. Ryan Leaf never played much either, he isn't a bust in your eyes?

I must have missed the part where Hall slipped and fell once against just one mediocre receiver. Looked like multiple torchings, in multiple games vs multiple receivers to me.

Whistle past the graveyard all you want, Hall sucks and was a complete waste of a 1st round pick. Lets archive this one and revisit it when the torchings begin anew.

Uh, my point was that Perry was a huge bust and there is practically no way Hall would be a bigger one.

yeah, I know that was hard to understand. :roll1:

And I love the "Springs wasn't burned, he fell." :slappy: All the more pathetic.

If thats what you were trying to say you would have said it the first time, not pull a ND chump and try to change the topic to how good a DB Hall will be.

This backtracking is sad even for you.

A bust is someone who didn't pan out the way he was intended to. i.e. Chris Perry. Regardless of PT or no PT...they didn't produce. PERIOD.

Leon Hall IMO will be a classic bust as well. After watching 5 scUM games this past year, I can't say he impressed me in any of them.

Irons was an interesting pick as well IMO. Not knocking the guy because I think he's a quality back, but I just thought Bush & Pitt would make for better NFL prospects. Something about Irons never truly impressed me.

At least you guys didn't draft Brady.

Bengals address defense
Iffy running back depth also gets some attention

Marvin Lewis contends that if Ahmad Brooks had played another college season at Virginia, the linebacker would have been a first-round pick this past weekend.
Instead, the Bengals selected Brooks in the third round of the supplemental draft in July, thus forfeiting their third-round pick Saturday.
And after flashing big-play potential and a dominating physical presence at middle linebacker in 11 games last season, Brooks is expected to solidify a weak position at the heart of Lewis' defense. . . . . .

Also of note in the article, the Bengals expect to sign former Ravens and Falcons LB Ed Hartwell and Lewis expects to have 11 picks in next years draft.

Bengals' top pick a character guy
First-round pick: Leon Hall
BY MARK CURNUTTE | [email protected]

Whether he was beaten by a wide receiver on a play, told he was overrated by a new coach or thought about growing up without his birth father, Leon Hall rarely let his emotions out.
"Things like that are what motivate me," Hall said Sunday.
"He doesn't talk. He goes off into his own little world, and I know not to bother him," said fianc?e Jessica Cobb. . . . .
