Official 2006 BP Mock Draft Thread

The Panthers are moving Thomas Davis to OLB, so that leaves a huge void at safety. Its very important that they draft a player capable of starting in either round 1 or 2, and with Lawson being the pick in the 1st round, a safety will be the pick here.

With the 26th pick in the second round, the Carolina Panthers select:

Pat Watkins, S, Florida State

The Panthers are very surprised that he is still on the board here. Most mocks had him going earlier. At 6'4 210 lbs. and sub-4.5 speed, he has more potential then everyone left at safety in the draft. He barely gets the nod over Daniel Bullocks, thanks to his potential and coverage skills. A real playmaker in the secondary that has a bright future in the NFL.

I felt like trading down into the early 3rd round, but couldnt risk missing out on a player like Watkins.

With the 28th pick in the 2nd round the Jacksonville Jaguars select JOE KLOPFENSTEIN, TE, COLORADO.

Kyle Brady isnt getting any younger and there is no depth at the TE position. Klopfenstein has decent speed with soft hands that can make the tough catch. Will give Leftwich another threat in the red zone.

With the 29th pick of the 2nd round the Denver Broncos select Dominique Byrd, TE, Southern Cal

Jeb Putzier bolted as a free agent so Byrd could get the starting nod. Byrd has great hands and is a big play maker down the field. Also has the ability to run after the catch.

He then promptly demands a trade PISSED that his new employers cannot even spell his name correctly

He the rescinds the trade demand after he hears of the new GM flying all the way to Texas to lay a bar-stool beat-down on the ass-clown that pointed this out

J/K Lonesome...I guess some people don't miss anything. Anyway, his new nickname is now "Mercedes", because he's sleek, fast, runs like a machine, and is now rich. Yeah, that's it. Really it was.

Talk about a reach, most scouting services have him ranked around at the 30th defensive end position. This guy will be lucky to get drafted.

While this is likely a reach, scouting services aren't always right. Antaaj Hawthorne and Ernie Shazor are two names that come to mind from last year. Most mocks had them going from late first to late second round. Hawthorne went late 2nd day. Shazor ended up being a free agent.

The point is that there are always surprises and "reaches" in the second round. Kiper is not God.

players being overrated are a completely different story. Who was going to snap up Guillory before the colts selected again, or the time after that, etc? That guy was taken way too early IMO.

Yeah, it may be a reach, but so what? "Scouting services" should be taken with a grain of salt, and other mock drafts are less than credible. Personally, I'm waiting for the first guy to get drafted twice because someone missed him. I figure someone drafted in round three or four will get drafted again later on. Hell, I think I'm the one who will probably do it.

With the 31st pick in the second round, 63rd overall, the Seattle Seahawks select cornerback, from the University of Texas, Cedric Griffin.

Losing Andre Dyson in free agency was a tough blow to the Seattle defensive backfield, and a big cornerback like Cedric Griffin (6'2", 195 lbs) will be first in line to replace him.
