Oden vs. Harangody (Split from Oden thread)

First off it is interesting because the numbers are so similar while Oden gets all the press.....

Which might be more interesting if the teams had played the same calibre of opponents.

Schedule strength:

Notre Dame
Sagarin #292
Pomeroy #237

Ohio State
Sagarin #69
Pomeroy #30

Talk about role reversal...

Now we just need the obligatory SAT discussion...

Keep trying ... When ND has faced top 25 they have did better than OSU has.
Keep trying what? ND has played a pretty weak schedule. You're not seriously trying to compare 21st & 22nd ranked squads to the 1, 2 & 3 ranked squads (at least earlier this week), are you?

FWIW- ND beat (at the time) #4 Maryland earlier this year.

In the end Luke will end up contributing much more for ND than Oden will be for OSU. More points, rebounds and yes even blocks...

I have watched Oden play and yes he is a great player but chances are he will be a one year and gone player. Having said that I would rather have Luke on my team.

If Oden isn't here, then Conley isn't here (who is playing like a senior, and will be here for a while)... and Matta has far less momentum to land his filthy 07 & 08 recruiting classes.

A common phrase while Oden was injured long-term was that his impact was unbelievable even if he never played a minute in an OSU jersey.

More blocks? Oden is blocking TEN TIMES as many shots, Harangody is going to have to stay 4 years and increase his production if he's going to be in Oden's neighborhood.

gee... you're going to compare a player who plays for one year to a player that stays for 3, likely 4, years? you better hope that he gets more points, rebounds, and blocks than does greg during his sole college year, which is shortened.

(no, i'm not stating that greg's playing for only one year is a foregone conclusion)

So I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that IF Oden were to stay 3-4 years, he would destroy Harangody's production in every category as well as contribute to a very likely (multiple time) OSU final four squad as opposed to the Domers and Luke's influence which might take them to one sweet 16 in the next 4 seasons. Bit of a run-on, but I said what I needed to.
