In the heady moments after the Dolphins? 35-13 waxing of Oakland on Sunday, Brian Hartline sidled up to Jeff Ireland, and asked the team?s general manager the following:

?Should training camp be optional now??

Ireland, not surprisingly, said heck no. But given Hartline?s breakout game, it should at least give him pause.

Hartline, who missed all but a few days of camp with a calf injury, set career highs in catches (nine) and receiving yards (111) in Sunday?s blowout win.

Ryan Tannehill?s search for a go-to guy might have ended. He targeted Hartline on 12 of his 30 passes, often going to him on sideline routes for which the Raiders? secondary had no answer.

?I?m just trying to take advantage of my opportunities,? Hartline said. ?When a ball comes my way, it?s either mine or nobody?s.

?[I want to be] someone that you can lean on in tough situations.?

If Hartline can prove Sunday?s showing wasn?t a one-time blip, the perception of the entire Dolphins? receiving corps changes. Ireland infamously referred to the group as a bunch of ?4s, 5s and 6s? on ?Hard Knocks,? but Hartline ? with his 12.3 yards per catch average ? looked like a legitimate star.

Hartline had as many catches as the rest of his teammates had combined. And he left Oakland searching for answers.

?We?ve got to go back to the drawing board,? Raiders coach Dennis Allen said, when asked about his secondary.

Despite being unable to practice in off-season, Miami Dolphins? Brian Hartline gets off to a fast start

As well as receiver Brian Hartline played Sunday in the best performance of his four-year career, Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said he told him afterward, ?You?re going to screw everything up for us.

?Now everybody is going to miss OTAs, mini-camps and preseason and think they can play,? Sherman said with a smile Monday.

It was only three weeks ago that Hartline rejoined the team after missing the entire off-season with a calf injury and appendectomy and expressed relief that he was healthy enough to avoid being put on the Physically Unable to Perform list or, even worse, waived.

Now, with 12 receptions, he is tied for fifth in the AFC with the likes of Cincinnati?s A.J. Green and New England?s Rob Gronkowski. Hartline got nine of his catches (for 111 yards) in Sunday?s 35-13 drubbing of Oakland.

?I?m very excited,? Sherman said. ?He took advantage of opportunities, so that was good. It was good to have him out there.?

Hartline, who had three catches for 50 yards in the fourth quarter of the Week 1 loss to Houston, said he and rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill have already built a chemistry.

?We?re able to get out there, see different looks and change plays,? Hartline said. ?That?s all him; I?m not doing anything besides listening to him. We converse on the sideline and talk about different looks we want to see, but overall it?s me agreeing with what he?s doing, him agreeing with me, and we?re rocking.?

Miami Dolphins? Brian Hartline shows he can catch on quickly
Despite missing most of training camp and the preseason with a calf injury, receiver Brian Hartline had an explosive Week 2.

By the end of August, the Dolphins offense had taken 264 snaps in preseason games and countless others in training camp. Injured wide receiver Brian Hartline had taken part in practically none of them.

Still, when Hartline returned to practice from a calf injury Aug. 31, he was confident.

?I don?t think I?m behind at all,? Hartline said then. ?I know this offense.?

He sure looked like he knew it Sunday.

After catching three passes in the Dolphins? opener, Hartline tore through the Oakland secondary, amassing 111 yards off of nine receptions ? both career highs.

It was a breakout game for the consistent, but seldom attention-grabbing, receiver from Ohio State.

The Raiders varied their coverages against him Sunday, but it did not matter.

Frequently finding his receiver open along the sideline, quarterback Ryan Tannehill kept coming back to Hartline, who was responsible for half of the Miami receivers? catches.

?He was in a rhythm,? Tannehill said. ?When you have a hot receiver, you want to get him the ball.?

Hartline, a former fourth-round pick by the Dolphins, amassed between 500 yards and 615 yards receiving in each of his previous three seasons in the NFL. After two games this season, he is on pace for almost 1,300 yards.

Dolphins WR Brian Hartline compares media's obsession with Tim Tebow to Kardashians

On Sunday, Tim Tebow will return to where it all began. Last October, while still with the Broncos, he made his first start of 2011 at quarterback against the Dolphins in Miami. The ensuing three months saw Denver win the AFC West and beat Pittsburgh in a playoff game.

It was the height of Tebowmania. Then, this past spring, the Broncos won the Peyton Manning sweepstakes and promptly shipped Tebow to New York. Now, nearly a year later, Tebow's with the Jets serving as Mark Sanchez's backup, a special teams role player and a rarely-used wildcat specialist.

And yet every week there are thousands of words devoted to whatever it is that Tebow's not doing (see this idiot, for example).

Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline finds it all very weird.

"That's you guys, how much you love [Tebow],'' Hartline said according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Everybody loves him, but the same people go with the Kardashians. I don't know what they did, either."

Brian Hartline, Dolphins -- Sure, Hartline may have followed up his nine-catch, 111-yard performance in Week 2 with just one reception last week, but the more important stat to look at is his nine targets. That increased his season total to 29, making him one of the most heavily targeted receivers in the league. Miami's passing game leaves plenty to be desired, but Ryan Tannehill clearly trusts Hartline and will continue slinging the ball in his direction. When given a chance, he has flashed an ability to make plays, and you can bet he'll be given that chance all season long.

Hartline has broken the all time single game receiving yardage record for the Miami Dolphins. That's a team who has had Paul Warfield, Nat Moore, Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, Brandon Marshall, Ted Ginn, and others.

I really didn't expect Hartline to have success in the NFL. If you would've told me he wouldn't have 250 yards receiving in his career I wouldn't have been too surprised. The fact that he's had it in one game, and a pretty successful career so far, is beyond awesome. Congrats to him!

He's always had the hands, and he's a very solid route runner. I for one am not surprised in the least

I just took a look at the pre-draft discussion in this thread.. there was talk of him battling for special teams spots in the NFL, even one post that asked if he might be able to play safety. When he was at OSU, there was just something that he didn't have that didn't make me feel good about his chances at the NFL level. I can't place a finger on it at the moment. Either way, I'm very glad to be wrong. :)

To go along with his solid route running, I also think that Brian is deceptively fast. If you take a look at that 80 yard TD catch, the safety (Adrian) had the angle on the tackle and couldn't catch him.

Also I heard from somewhere that Hartline is the fastest player on the Dolphins.

That can be a little hard to believe, since I always thought he was a 4.5-4.6 guy, but maybe I'm wrong.
