On how impressive were Brian Hartline catches: ?I thought Brian (Hartline) jump-started us actually. He got the first catch down there and dove. He?s from Ohio State, it?s a Michigan game for him so he should be use to that kind of weather (laughing). I had a few of those guys like that between him and Matt Moore, Oregon State and Ohio State so they kind of like the weather. They loved it in pregame. Those guys were all ready to go so Brian did a great job we thought. He makes great catches in practice and makes them in the game. He?s a tough guy. He?s a very tough guy.?
Hartline confident Dolphins can be pass-first attack
By Kevin Fishbain
Heading into Week Nine, the Dolphins were 0-7, but it was hard to call them the worst team in the league considering the talent that Miami trotted out each Sunday. The players knew that, too, which is a reason they remained confident, setting up a stretch of five wins in the next eight games, ending the season on a high note.
"We knew we had good players, we just weren't putting it all together yet," WR Brian Hartline told PFW.
Hartline, the speedy third-year receiver out of Ohio State, gave credit to former head coach Tony Sparano and the rest of the staff for keeping the team together during the 0-7 start.
"We were on the field everyday. We saw it. We have a lot of good pieces. You can always fill some holes, absolutely" he said. "We'll definitely be a team you'll want to keep an eye on next year because we have a lot of good players on this team."

Hartline Hungry for Winning Season
By The Finsiders on February 21, 2012
With a new offense that could give him more opportunities, WR Brian Hartline is eager to live up to his big-play reputation.
Hartline recently talked to The Finsiders about what he hopes to be an expanding role with the aqua and orange.
?I have to carry more of a weight,? Hartline said. ?I?d like to get into a system here for four, five, six, eight years, and thrive in it, and win football games.?
With Joe Philbin?s coaching pedigree?the Packers finished in the top-10 in total offense each of the five seasons he was offensive coordinator?Hartline is excited to start the new season. He does feel, however, that the team needs to make a few moves first.
?We?re going to bring some guys in, get some more competition in certain areas, fill some holes and make some moves,? he said.
As far as getting caught up in personnel moves or the ever-churning rumor mill, Hartline said he?ll leave that up to the decision makers.
?It?s amazing when you trace a rumor back to where it started, it carries no validity,? the fourth-year receiver said. ??If anything where I get my information from is straight from the source. If I talk to any players, they?re going to tell me the best information.?
Before he heads back to Miami for camp, Hartline is training at his alma mater, Ohio State, where he is working on his MBA. During his off-season training in Columbus, his sibling rivalry has been taken to a whole new level.
?I?ve got the fortunate luxury of having my brother [Quarterback Mike], who unfortunately signed an off-season deal with the Patriots, living with me,? Hartline said. ?So he?ll be throwing to me, and we can get some work in that way.?
Miami Dolphins begin talks with key starters
Team talking to Long, Wake, and Hartline about new deals
Omar Kelly, Staff Writer
March 29, 2012
The Miami Dolphins have begun talks with three key starters entering the final year of their deals about extending their contracts.
According to team and league sources, General Manager Jeff Ireland has had exploratory talks with four-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long, top pass rusher Cameron Wake, and starting receiver Brian Hartline about redoing their existing deals.
It is unclear how close each player is to getting a new deal done, but owner Steve Ross stressed this week that re-signing Miami's top players was a major priority.
"I think that's very important," Ross said when asked about re-signing key starters. "Certainly, those players that we know that are coming up we all know we want to retain them. We have to make sure we're in a position to do that."
Hartline, a former Ohio State standout who was a fourth-round pick in 2009, has started 21 games the past two seasons, contributing 109 catches for 1,670 yards (15.3 per catch) and six touchdowns.
New coach Joe Philbin seems excited about Hartline's potential to blossom in Miami's west coast offense.
Hartline is slated to earn $1.3 million this season in base pay.
WR Brian Hartline on the Brandon Marshall trade: ?When the new coaching staff comes in they have their own philosophy, and they make decisions based off that.?
Hartline on now being the premier WR target: ?It?s encouraging. I took it as, at first, maybe well go out and fill a hole, but then maybe they feel confident in the group we have. Myself and Davone leading that group. That?s definitely a positive toward us. It?s encouraging, it?s exciting all the same. We?re getting started. We?re not getting too excited so far, but it?s definitely encouraging.?
Miami Dolphins: Why the hate for Brian Hartline?
by: Omar Kelly May 25th, 2012
Brian Hartline doesn?t get the respect he deserves.
Brian Hartline has led the Dolphins in receptions two of his three seasons.
I know why, and YOU know why. The difference between the two of us is I?m not afraid to say it.
Hartline, the Miami Dolphins? starting receiver, is a victim of racial profiling. Trust me, as a black man (with dreads) living in America I know racial profiling when I see it.
Hartline?s a white athlete playing a skill position that?s dominated by people with darker skin. That?s the reason I suspect many believe he?s an inferior athlete.
That?s the reason most Dolphins fans don?t respect the FACT Hartline has led the Dolphins receivers in yards per reception two of his three seasons.
I suspect his appearance is one of the reasons Hartline, a former Ohio State standout, is consistently disrespected by his own fan base, despite being one of the team?s steadiest players the past three seasons.

Miami Dolphins Player Ceiling and Floor Analysis: Brian Hartline
It's time to take a look at the receivers and there will likely be many more different opinions on how each of Miami's receivers will do. After all, Miami is converting to a new offensive system and we have no idea who will start at receiver and which QB will be throwing them the ball.
We'll start this position group with Brian Hartline, one of the projected starters for now. This one may also be the most debated one for all the receivers. Let's get the arguments going.
Star-divide
Floor: Some would argue that Hartline's floor would have him as Miami's #3 or #4 WR behind Davone Bess, Clyde Gates, and Legedu Naanee. I find this highly unlikely though because Gates and Naanee aren't established route runners. That is is a key trait for a WR in a west coast offense so I have the odds of Gates of earning a starting job as slim. For those that have the opinion Marlon Moore may start, I have his odds as just as slim as Gates for the same reasons. Now to get back to Hartline. He may struggle for various reasons. If he earns the #1 WR job, he will face #1 CB's like Darrelle Revis more frequently. He may also have a new QB, possibly a rookie, throwing him the ball in a new system. There are a lot of things that can go wrong for Miami's new offense that could negatively impact Miami's receiving corps. Miami could look to be more of a running team that many would expect and the Dolphins may spread the ball around much more than they did in the past. The TE's may play more of a role and that could negatively impact Hartline's numbers. Stats: 40 receptions, 550 yards, 1 TD.
Ceiling: Hartline may very well be the #1 WR and personally, I think he has a better chance of being the #1 WR over Bess. Hartline could thrive in this offense with his quickness and his route running. While exactly a burner of a WR, Hartline does have good, not great speed, and maintains his speed well through his cuts. That can pay off big in this offense. Miami may pass the ball upwards of 60% of the time and with his abilities to fit this offense, Hartline may be the most targeted receiver on the team. His numbers may benefit greatly. Does this mean I think Hartline will be a top WR? No. I don't think Hartline will ever be a top 10 WR and likely not a top 20 WR. Still, he could do some very good things in this system. Another benefit the Dolphins and Hartline may have is the fact that they don't face many top defenses, specifically those known for shutting down the pass. Stats: 80 receptions, 1,200 yards, 8 TDs.
Show and prove: Brian Hartline
June, 8, 2012
By James Walker | ESPN.com
We continue our series on players in the AFC East who have a lot to prove in 2012. Next we take a look at the Miami Dolphins' No. 1 receiver.
Brian Hartline, Dolphins
2011 stats: 35 receptions, 549 yards, one touchdown
What he must prove: Hartline, by default, must prove he is a legitimate No. 1 receiver. Miami traded Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears for two third-round picks this offseason. The Dolphins didn't take a receiver high in the draft or make any significant additions in free agency. That leaves Hartline trying to make the jump from a complementary receiver to a No. 1 threat. Hartline is sneaky athletic and is able to get behind a defense when he's not the primary focus. He played off Marshall well. But can Hartline be the guy when he's facing an opponent's No. 1 cornerback and possibly double teams week in and week out?
Walker's 2012 outlook: I'm not optimistic about this one. Hartline is a nice player and someone you want on your team. But asking him to be the first option in Miami's new West Coast offense is asking a lot. Dolphins rookie head coach Joe Philbin says you don't need star receivers to run his system. But the weapons Philbin had in Green Bay (Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, tight end Jermichael Finley) are not slouches. Hartline caught 31, 43 and 35 passes his first three seasons. Maybe those numbers go up some. But I would be surprised if Hartline suddenly explodes for 80 receptions and 1,200 yards -- the type of production Miami lost with Marshall.
Brian Hartline?s absence from Miami Dolphins minicamp is a ?personal situation?
by: Izzy Gould June 20th, 2012
The second day of a mandatory Miami Dolphins minicamp included 89 of 90 players.
The lone absence was wide receiver Brian Hartline for a second straight day. Hartline had been limited in previous voluntary organized training activities. He was absent last week for the lone media viewing on Monday.
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin was asked about Hartline?s absence Wednesday, but offered little explanation in return.
?He?s got a personal situation that?s working itself out that he?s tending to in this point in time,? Philbin said.
Hartline is one of 12 receivers on the Dolphins roster. He had 35 receptions for 549 yards and one touchdown last season.
Brian Hartline recovering from appendectomy
Posted by Evan Silva on June 30, 2012
Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline was absent for the majority of OTA and minicamp practices due to what was at one point believed to be a strained calf.
But according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Hartline missed spring workouts because he was recovering from an appendectomy. Hartline is expected to be ?fine? for training camp.
Hartline quietly could be headed toward a breakout season entering his fourth year in the league. The 25-year-old is in a contract year and, on paper, the Dolphins project to field perhaps the NFL?s poorest wide receiver corps. Hartline could emerge as the cream of that crop.
It sounds like the appendectomy will only be a speed bump in the way of Hartline putting up career-best stats in 2012.
Brian Hartline Talks With Season Ticket Holders
Jul 24th, 2012
by Brian MillerCamp News
Last night Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline spoke VIA conference call with season ticket holders. He was joined by Dolphins CEO Mike Dee. While the call could not be recorded, I was able to jot down some of the questions that were asked as well as the response from Brian Hartline. Below is some of the questions. The answers are not verbatim but are as close to what Brian said as I could possibly recall. Enjoy.
Regarding his rehabilititation:
Hartline: Said that he was progressing well, ?pretty good? was the term he used said that 100% is a ?lost thing at this point? and said he doesn?t expect to miss any games. Hartline had off-season appendix surgery.
Hartline was asked about the responsibility in this offensive system of the QB and WR?s.
Hartline: Said there is a lot going on with this system. Says the WR?s need to make it easier for the QB and that timing is important. Says both the QB and the WR need to work together to get it done.
Regarding Ryan Tannehill.
Hartline: Caller asked about Andrew Luck and RGIII starting and Tannehill not. Hartline said those teams were not as fortunate as the Dolphins having two veterans on the roster who can start. David Garrard and Matt Moore. Also said later that it?s a good situation for him because he has two veteran to learn from and doesn?t have a ?need? to start.
