Brian Hartline has been a consequential part of Ohio State as a coach and player. It's great to see him get this opportunity but so sad to see him go. If anyone can coach this final run and take on a new job, I believe he can. This guy bleeds scarlet and gray.

Day couldn't have not been preparing for this eventuality this year. I think a step or two down is a good place to take the chair at the head of the table and he has worked under several great head coaches. I'd like to think he excels there and one day returns.

Congratulations, Brian Hartline.

Alright….I guess we could go after this guy. Has some WR coaching experience.

So much for our pipeline into SFE
and now Kayden Dixon-Watt makes sense
Like @brodybuck21 said, and also, SFE are big fans of Keenan Bailey(who's my vote for WR coach replacement)
tOSU is not as good today as we were yesterday . Hartline is free to do what he wants is it a great move Time will tell. Tom Herman and others have left before..
If Day wants to create a dynasty like Saban, then departures like this will happen(though it doesn't make it easier)
I thought Hartline would walk into a P4 job personally……I’m not a huge fan of this move for him. Honestly, I thought he’d crush it at UF, FSU, or Miami if he wanted to wait it out a bit.

USF is tricky……it’s a bigger school than most realize, but still not attractive enough to pull in 5 star talent. He’s in a weird spot to me…again, JMO.

I think he sold himself a little short, and it’s going to be really hard to match the production of Golesh who did a really nice job there.

I hope he proves me wrong…
I honestly think this is the perfect first HC job for him. He has a fertile recruiting landscape, a school not expecting him to win anytime soon(at least not an NC). He can recruit well enough to win some conference titles, and then get to the school that could put him on a path for a big P4 HC job. He can learn while on the job and not have immense pressure, unlike if he took the Ped St, or UK positions.

From what I've read and the interviews I've seen, he is one of the most self-motivated people in the game. If he thinks he's ready, there's certainly no basis for me to dispute that. I think he'll be successful and, echoing everyone's thoughts above, USF is a great jumping off point from which to come back when/if the timing is right. It could well be that HC experience is just the box that he was told was requisite and he was missing, but I really would've liked another year with him as OC.

Hartline is going to do everything by the book which is great…..he and Ryan Day have become best friends over the years, which helps a lot in this scenario.

It’s going to be really fascinating to see which players and coaches follow him to USF.

The thing to keep in mind, is if it’s “harmful” to OSU, it won’t happen because Hartline isn’t going to undermine OSU. There will 100% be some transfers to USF, and I’d imagine some lower level staffers, but in every case it will be because they weren’t going to make an impact at OSU and USF will give them an opportunity to see field or grow their careers.

It was going to happen at some point and in many ways I’m happy he’s going to USF and not, say a University of Florida, where he’d absolutely demolish us in WR recruiting.

Still very surprised he didn’t land a P4 job…..I think AD’s are so stuck inside a box on how they hire, they never really gave Hartline enough thought. Now if he crushes it at USF, it’ll be a massive bidding war when they could’ve had him today, already building the program up (I’m looking at you PSU and UF).

……or maybe Hartline doesn’t want to compete with OSU right out of the gate in his new endeavor. If that’s the case I respect him even more bc it’d have sucked to watch recruits and possibly some players follow him to whatever P4 job he took.
