yeah the same Stanford team that nearly choked away their game against probably the worst team in D-1a in Washington.....

If Ntre Ame is ranked this week it's a sign that the bottom end of the top 25 is weaker than all hell....

Just got back to the game. The spread aside, Stanford still lost. Apparantly another team handed the Irish a win, they need to quit doing that...after 4 games its getting a little old, we should learn to win one on our own :roll1:

That being said, the Irish were way too conservative the 2nd half on both offense and defense. They didn't air it out as much, which is probably smart, but they continued to play conservative until the final snap. Was biting nails at the end, they finally stepped it up again on Stanford's last possession to finish it out.

I had two favorite moments, and they came at the expense of Stanford. When the penalty was called on the punt return for running into Armando Allen before the catch, it was tough to tell in the stands how or even if the Stanford player was involved. He was within a few yards, he may have pushed the Notre Dame player into Armando, really couldn't tell. In any event, Jim Harbaugh was screaming on the sidelines, he said Armando didn't call fair catch and said it should have been Stanford's ball. He was completely over the top, threw his hat and had a full fledged temper tantrum on the field, absolutely hilarious. The fans heckled him all game after that, chanting "Take your Prozac!"

The second enjoyable moment was more of a series of moments. The fans gave it to Marinelli. They chanted his name when he came to the sidelines, they gave him all kinds of hell. At one point he stood up and acted like he didn't know why they were targeting him, I hope he has a wonderful trip back home  Funny thing is he points out the Irish have only had a few sacks in 200 some defensive plays, but Stanford gave up the most of any team today. The blitzes haven't turned into a lot of sacks, but the team has gotten a fair share of interceptions, so theres other benefits to pressure, numb nuts.

Anyway, when the team was attacking, they looked good. The short passes and runs up the middle in the 2nd half were disappointing, it really felt like they were letting the Cardinals back into the game. Aside from that, the kicking game still sucks. They really need to open it up, open competition I say. Bring on a few guys from the soccer squad, they've done very well in the past. Walker is either 1-8 or 1-7 on field goals this season, with many of those being makeable in the 30-40 yard range. He should be hitting 70% of these. Good news: we have a new kicker coming in next year from my cousin's high school, same school as Sam Young and Dan Wenger. Hopefully we make it that long.
