Pitt, NC and USC. Although I think the USC game will be a lot closer than the usual ass kicking.

Heh.

USC kicked OUR ass. And you think they won't absolutely murder you?

USC will probably run the table until that game, and destroying ND might earn them enough style points to get to the BCSNC. Ntre Ame WILL lose big.

He was saying that ND will keep it closer against SC than they usually do. Not knocking the way we played against them.

I just think ND will be able to move the ball a little on USC. And NO ....
I have not been drinking OC Margarita's, although I may have one in a few minutes. Today is our 24th anniversary.....:biggrin::biggrin:

I know he wasn't knocking us. I was just using it for comparative purposes. USC has been murdering every team they've played this year (-Oregon State). You think it'll be any different against a below average ND team, who is no better than Oregon, Virginia, or Ohio State?

I also think it won't be pretty but, who knows?

Its tough to really gauge where this team is, due to the schedule. Michigan State has given the most competition. Purdue is always Purdue, hell, they were starting to give the Irish the game last year. The Irish started late against SD State and they clobbered a rebuilding Michigan team for 1 half before the downpour. Stanford is getting better, but not there yet.

I think this defense is better than they get credit for. They don't have a lot of sacks, single digits I think, but the pressure has caused some interceptions. The defense also has some forced fumbles in the red zone. The offense has been able to capitalize on some of these, which didn't happen last year. They're not giving up as many big plays, maybe one or two long ones as oppose to half a dozen or more. Mostly short gains and an eventual stop/turnover, or they give up a couple TDs.

Oh, and saw this on Harbaugh's outburst at the game. It wasn't like a John L Smith outburst, but it was still funny. Wish I had a video to relive it, was pretty comical live, especially to see the reaction in the stands:

Pac-10 commissioner Tom Hansen reprimanded Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh on Monday for criticizing the officiating of the Cardinal's game at Notre Dame. Hansen also said that the call made by a Pac-10 crew that so steamed Harbaugh was correct.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Harbaugh took issue with a second-quarter call in which Stanford was flagged for failing to provide a Notre Dame player an unimpeded opportunity to catch a punt. The penalty erased the recovery of the muffed punt by Stanford on the Irish 37-yard line.

"Pac-10 officials have reviewed video of the play and it is apparent the Stanford player covering the punt impeded the Notre Dame player attempting to catch it," Hansen said in a statement.

"The call was correct."

Hansen refers to NCAA rule 6-4-1: "A player of the receiving team within the boundary lines must be given an unimpeded opportunity to catch the kick."

Hansen added, "Even though the player attempting to catch the kick was bumped by his teammate, he still attempted to catch the kick and was impeded by the Stanford player. The rule places the onus on the kicking team member to avoid impeding the opportunity to catch the ball."

Talking to reporters after Stanford's 28-21 defeat, Harbaugh said: "We got a couple of bad calls. It's hard to imagine people don't know football any better than that. Maybe I'll be swayed differently after I see the replay, but from what I saw on the field, I still can't get over it. It was a really bad call. It should have been our ball and a touchdown for us."

Pac-10 rules prohibit coaches from commenting publically on officiating.

I still don't buy ND. They have improved from last year, which is great, but they literally could not have been worse. They can score now and, apparently, block from time to time...but they haven't really faced anyone. Michigan, by all rights, should have beaten ND but shat the bed with 153,000 turnovers. SDSU took ND to the wire, and so did Stanford. That's not saying a hell of a lot for ND.

I'm willing to give them credit for improving over last year, but this team is still not a top ten caliber team. They have had a lot of breaks go their way so far this season, and that won't continue.

Very true, I have no problem with ND not being ranked at all.
