Notre Dame @ tOSU, Sat Sep 3, 7:30PM (ABC)

“I feel more like a leader than last year,” said Buchner, the 6-foot-1, 216-pounder, who passed for 298 yards and three touchdowns while running for another 336 yards and three scores as a freshman in 2021. “Maybe it’s because I’ve been here another year or getting reps with the ones. Certainly confidence comes with preparation. When you’re more prepared you have more confidence. Confidence is one the most important traits for a quarterback to be successful. Once you get that confidence, then you can really start balling.”

In the "new generations" defense, when I was 17-18, it was 'natty or bust', provided we got past Texas first...

So, you’re talking about somewhere in the 2005-2009 range, as that’s the extent of our history with Texas. Three games. This also means you’re a young buck if you were 17-18 then, but yeah.

Either way, I’d say “beating Texas” was much, much bigger back then than beating Notre Dame is in 2022. Bowl games still mattered during the period of time you’re referencing… far more than they do these days. No one seems to even care now, they’ve already handed the Buckeyes the win and want to talk about Alabama in the playoffs.

Also, if you remember this being the case with beating Texas, you must have been living in an alternate universe. — Those games were bigger than life compared to how the vast majority are treating the game against ND this year.

I still take the attitude that a win/loss to ND matters much more than a loss to Texas. IMO, it matters more in the regions the Bucks recruit and in their TV ratings. The big media markets - NY, LA, and Chicago - will jump on the Irish bandwagon at any sign of a return to prominence. Too many years of ND winning NCs and Heismans due to their power in the big media markets.

Notre Dame offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson has collected a few injuries during his college career. He added another to the list this week.

In a Thursday press conference, Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman said Patterson was sidelined on Monday with a right foot sprain. He also said team doctors estimated the fifth-year senior would miss up to 10 days of practice and deemed him questionable for the Sept. 3 contest with Ohio State.

I mean I don’t know what their secondary looks like; I’m not familiar with their roster at all. Is there anyone noteworthy there? Not to sound arrogant but I’m struggling with thinking that they have the ability to neutralize or slow this corp. There are literally like almost 4 first round draft picks potentially just at receiver with a QB that’s likely to be what, a top 10 selection at worst?

Pending weather I just feel like this offense overwhelms them throughout the course of a game; I’m talking fast scoring drives wherein we are just amass huge amounts of yards at a time quickly to the point where it’s demoralizing and their guys start saying fuck this.

I would imagine not, but then again, Oregon didn't really stop the offense much either and we saw how that turned out.

The biggest keys to success this year are the defense returning to some semblance of a unit that can get stops from its base sets and an offense that can run the ball and get the tough yards when necessary. Both elements were missing last year at times.

They have the ability to throw on anyone and everyone but hey need to be more complete (or, let's go with balanced) on offense and competent on defense.

Urbs back to doing the Big Noon games. I’m hoping the Bucks won’t be seen in that slot except for games against MAC teams.

He's doing the studio show like he did before with Reggie Bush and Matt Lienert, not calling games themselves. Love him or hate him, Urbs has a great football mind and kind of made the show. IMHO it went downhill when Meyer was replaced by Bob Stoops.

All for it! Go back to the old sleeves already

Throwback? Those just look like our standard uniforms unless I am missing something lol. Regardless, glad we are not getting too cute with this one, if ND wants to that is fine but I just want to rock the traditional S&G on Week 1. I typically don't care much unless we are wearing trash alt jerseys, but I want the opener to just be the S&G I love running on the field.
