Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Beano Cook here: Jimmy will win 4 Heismans while at ND.

Well...3 maybe (tieing him with Powlus in Beano's world)...but not before the Big Ten defenses (and Ga Tech's already, of course) throttle the crap out of Claussen and embarrass Weis' man-tits off this season. ND is in BIG trouble this year, methinks, but I don't really think Weis cares all that much until 2008. I imagine he took one look at the schedule and said the hell with it.

I'm too lazy to look it up. How many of Ty Willingham's guys are going to be starting on Saturday. After all, Ty Willingham is the reason that ND is so bad this year. I'm just curious as to how many of his guys are actually out there playing.

according to rivals.com depth chart, ND has 10 seniors (at least academically) starting, meaning they were from the class of 2003 or 2004, making them Ty's kids. that's a pretty high number for such a bare cupboard.

Ok, I looked over the 2 deep for the Georgia Tech game and here's what I came up with:
14 players on the 2 deep on offense are players that have come in under Weis. Of those, 2 (John Carlson and John Sullivan...both Willingham guys) are probably AA this year.
10 players on the 2 deep on defense are Weis' players with the best guy (Zbikowski) being a Willingham guy.

This is just my take with very little research, and I understand that the argument is that TW left Weis with very little to work with but...
Weis won his last two years with pretty much all of Ty's guys and this is because Weis is an awesome coach. ND is going to get their ass kicked this season and this is because Willingham was an awful coach.

I don't get it.

I'll be shocked if NoD/NoO can find a way to beat anyone other than Michigan State and personally, I don't think they'll beat Michigan State at this point either.

Now here is the REAL question:

NoD fans are notoriously snooty when it comes to their team. I wonder if we will be able to find people outside in the world that will still admit to being NoD fans and wear their gear. I don't think anything like what this season will end up being for them has ever occured. Might we find out how big that bandwagon truly is?

They'll do what they always do..."Never jam today"...meaning they'll talk about how in the past (read: 1940) they were so much better than you, and in the very near future they'll be so much better than you. Now doesn't matter to NoWs fans anymore...just how snooty they were and how snooty they will be. Subway alums are notorious for this, and if that doesn't work...they'll just turn to the textbook ND stopgap, which is that their high academic standards prevent them from competing with all of us intellectually inferior state schools...hee-yuk.
