Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Saban wasn't in East Lansing either. Give the kid some time. You never know... He may be next in Columbus

He should've passed on being the HC, but not sure how any coach would do that with their finances and resources. But ND is one of the hardest programs in the country to make successful. He was better off replacing Fickell at UC and then earning his way up to a position at a program with more local talent. But Freeman hasn't helped himself with questionable hiring and even more questionable in game management. If Knowles were to leave I'd bring him in as DC, but no way would I want him replacing Day any time soon

Yeah, not too many (if any) coordinators would pass on a $6.68M a year job as HC at ND; and it is reportedly a 6 year contract* too. As you alluded to, the secret to success for any college football head coaching position is being able to hire great assistants.

Sources informed Football Scoop and Irish Illustrated that Freeman signed a six-year contract worth $42 million on Dec. 1, 2021.
