Notre Dame (football only discussion)

No, I think you can still get in with just a student ticket, but they don't let you leave and once a ticket has been scanned by the scanners it's not eligible for another admission.

I was at that overtime game in 2000 in South Bend, hell of a game! You Husker fans travel well, and were cool customers. Lots of class, didn't see the trash talk and fights that fans like Michigan brought in during those days, very friendly visitors. Bob Davie made the wrong call to sit on the ball and go into overtime though, he should have made a push to get down the field in the final minute and get the field goal, especially with his QB playing with a fractured wrist. Next to the '05 USC game and '08 Michigan game, those were some of my favorites that I got to see win or lose.

From the Notre Dame magazine:

So you think you?re going to make a killing selling your tickets to this year?s home game against Florida State on e-Bay.

Beware.

Your buyer might be the Notre Dame ticket office. And if you get caught reselling tickets above face value you?ll lose your ticket-ordering privileges for at least two years. If it?s season tickets you?re scalping, you?ll be barred from ordering tickets for at least five years.

The penalties are part of a strict new resale policy adopted by the ticket office. The aim is to discourage alumni, employees and others from ordering tickets when they don?t intend to attend games but rather are angling to resell them at a profit.

The other concern in regard to ticket reselling is potential loss of home-field advantage. At the home game against Nebraska in September 2000, thousands of red-clothed Cornhuskers fans were scattered throughout the crowd. Those outside areas allocated for visiting team tickets couldn?t have been there without the original purchasers selling their tickets.

Ahh, sorry, I think I missed the caption in the picture that said "faculty tickets." It looks like do require student/faculty ID's to be presented when you have students tickets and student season booklets. I thought I got in with my cousin's student ticket and no ID in '07 and sat with her, but now that I think about it I may have just had a regular ticket and I snuck into her student section once I was inside.

I think I'm on record as being a pretty strong anti ND fan. BUT in the last 10 years, years in which we keep insisting that Notre dame is irrelevant, they've gone 18 and 13 against OSU, MSU, UM and Purdue.

I'm mad that they've been able to avoid playing by the rules others play by, but what is becoming irrelevant is the Big 10 conference, not Notre Dame.

Since 2002
ND vs scUM: 5-6
ND vs MSU: 6-5
ND vs Purdue: 8-3

Trying to make the logical argument that the B1G is becoming irrelevant solely because ND beats up on Purdue is quite a stretch.

The B1G is one more season of Urban renewal away from being "relevant" depending on the definition of conference strength one wants to use. I feel that as long as OSU is a legit top 5 team then it matters not what the rest of the B1G does. Most CFB mini dynasty's (including Jim Tressels) were built on 1 super power in a conference of weaklings.

As the playoff system gets more and more ingrained it will matter less and less what one of the Indiana schools does on the football field.

To go along with what Jax said, Notre Dame hasn't been relevant for a long time, however they've survived dropping off the face of the planet because of the history and strong fan base I think. If it was any other football team, they'd probably be the same discussion as Harvard teams or something like Duke. As a result of that strong fan base they're an easy target for media even in down years/decades, especially how polarizing Notre Dame can be as people usually hate them or love them. The media keeps talking, good or bad, and the Irish refuse to stay out of discussion as a result.

I don't see it as the B1G being weak. Yeah, it may be a down year for the conference, especially with possibly their best team being barred from post season play, but it's only one month and not all that bad. I think it's more like the stars all aligned poorly and many of these teams are rebuilding.

Michigan was hit with an ugly September schedule and it still trying to recover from the RichRod era. Wisconsin is having growing pains on offense it looks like, but they've lost both of their games by a combined 6 points and only one was non conference. Outside of giving up a lot of points to Marshall, Purdue has looked stronger this year than they have in awhile imo. Ped State is Ped State, they're looking better the last few weeks, but that program is going to be hurting no matter how you slice it. Michigan State is clearly missing Kirk Cousins and some experienced receivers, but Dantonio is a good coach and the experience this year will lead to good things next year for the Spartans. Finally, Nebraska's only loss came to a UCLA team that has surprised a lot of people and is currently ranked #22.

Call me an optimist, I dunno, but it looks more and more like a unlucky twist of fate occurred in September, I expect things to be back on track next year.

Since 1994:

vs. Ohio State: 0-3
vs. Michigan: 6-9
vs. Michigan State: 7-10

Those stats include their 13-6 win over Michigan and 20-3 win over Michigan State this season. So, over the last two decades, ND is 13-22 against the "Big 2" of the B1G and Michigan State. Throwing out perennial doormat Purdue, ND ain't shit against solid B1G teams...in fact, in our three wins over ND, the average score is 36-21.
