Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Like any youngster Freeman lacks consistency. I say this about almost any first time HC. I have a much longer explanation but in essence like anything in life it takes reps. Lots of reps. You want a good tool maker it takes 7-10 years to see enough to be any good. An trade is the same.

Going from a coordinator to head coach is a HUGE step, more so for a young guy.

And it is less common for it to be a successful step when coming up from the defensive side… at least recently

Greyshirt’s own Dantonio is a fine counter example but there are a lot more examples of it going otherwise

Freeman appears to be doing well for year 1 imho. They’re getting better. Many coaches would’ve lost that team

Things to keep in mind for a certain coach in his 4th year as well.

Under the category, Drinking the Kool-Aid, Marcus freeman has bought into "The Legend." Asked how he thought his team would do in its David versus Goliath game with Clemson, Freeman responded, "...except we're not David. We're Notre Dame." I would add that Clemson is not Goliath either, and being Notre Dame hasn't meant much except a bad case of overhyping for the last 30 years.

Agreed.
ND is the latest diet fad year in/out.

Freeman has quietly saved his job by getting ND to 7-3. Would’ve never guessed this record a few weeks ago. Kudos Marcus

Yeah, they have now won 5 in a row and play decent pass defense. I'll say they have a real good chance of beating USC.

“That is now what our motivation is," Freeman said on the opportunity to get a chance to play spoiler. "Our motivation is understanding the rivalry and the opportunity to be called a winner. That’s something I believe in. The chance to be called a winner is the greatest achievement there is. That is our motivation. It’s the opportunity to play against a great opponent and the chance to be called a winner. That’s all the motivation we need.”

Tomorrow’s game is at USC.

The Irish will likely land in the Cheez-It Bowl, Gator Bowl or Holiday Bowl, landing outside the New Year’s Six tier. Because of LSU’s 38-23 upset loss to Texas A&M, there’s a very, very remote chance the Irish would be paired with former coach Brian Kelly and his new team in the Gator, when it appeared there would be no chance of it.

Yeah, Notre Dame vs LSU would be an interesting bowl game this year.
