Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Hey, cut us some slack, we've added Texas, Oklahoma, and Miami to the future schedules, we're allowed another creampuff to balance  It's not always easy to fill out a schedule with everyone you want when you're Independant, especially during the end of the year a lot of teams have their conference schedules. The last couple years the schedules have been a lot easier than they had been...and the team struggled mightily despite that. Kelly may seal his defeat with the schedules coming up in the next couple years. Next year isn't going to be a cake walk either, I see Wake Forest and Purdue as the only gimmes maybe, and they were the only two teams that didn't go bowling aside from USC of course:
USF
Michigan
Michigan State
Pittsburgh
Purdue
Air Force
USC
Navy
Wake Forest
Maryland
Boston College
Stanford

Boston College should be a gimme, but they're a rival and we often play them shitty. I'd like to say Navy should be a gimme, but not anymore. They're a decent team now and we haven't prepared well for them the last 4 years. The defense played a little better at the end of the year than they did against Navy, but that was a pretty piss poor performance. Air Force had a pretty decent team last year too, 4 losses that came to 3 opponents in the Top 10 at the time and San Diego State, beating GT in their bowl.

I wasn't talking about SOS directly, I was talking about the made-for-TV national matchups that ND supposedly wants the ability to schedule throughout the country. Temple is a throwaway game and pretty much the opposite of what they supposedly want to take advantage of as an independent. It's a game that offers no national interest. It's a series firmly within Notre Dame's eastern footprint - a glorified gathering for the Subway Alumni Association, Philadelphia Chapter. There's nothing wrong with that if that's what they really want - it's really no different than what everybody else tries to do - but they don't need to talk out of both sides of their mouth about it. As you point out, they're going for those interesting non-regional matchups to some extent with some of their future schedules - but not to an extent greater than they'd be able to should they join a conference.

Yeah, I can see your point. I'm sure they could have asked someone a little more reputable, but maybe their first choices already had games scheduled for that week, who knows.
I gotta say that this is kinda odd that they're scheduling some MAC schools all of a sudden. They played Western Michigan this year, and that was the first time since 1920 they've played a school that's currently in the MAC. Temple will be the 2nd, and in close proximity. Personally, I don't like it. Smaller teams like this always get up for a big matchup, Tulsa did it this year to us...we came out flat, played like crap most of the game, and I have to hear their coach say it was "The biggest win in school history." Maybe they thought they were playing the Irish from 40 years ago :p

In the course of reliving the wonders of the 90s and watching some Animaniacs this morning, I ran across an episode that featured none other than our dear Fighting Irish. The name on the team bus, Notre Lame. I had quite a good laugh at that, and figured you all would appreciate the humor as well.

Notre Lame

Sad situation.

However, I must admit I did get a small chuckle out of one thing in the story...

Someone told him over the bullhorn to "Be a Michigan Man today." He then shot himself.

I can only assume Josh Groban was playing in the background.

I found this part pretty interesting...

Brown was drafted in the fourth round of the 1993 NFL draft following eight years at the University of Michigan, where he was co-captain in all-Big Ten his senior year. Brown played eight seasons in the NFL as a defensive back with the Patriots, Jets and Detroit Lions, from 1993-2000.

You can't really blame someone for blowing their face off if they spent 8 years at that place. What took him so long?

NFL legend Joe Montana unhappy with Notre Dame

An innocuous question during a luncheon appearance apparently produced a startling scenario Wednesday: Joe Montana has a pretty sizable beef with Notre Dame.

Montana appeared at a luncheon at the Rochester (N.Y.) Riverside Convention Center and was asked by an audience member if he would consider a position as athletic director or coach at his alma mater.

"You're asking me at absolutely the wrong time," Montana said, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.

Montana then blasted Notre Dame for its treatment of his son, Nate, who was a seldom-used backup quarterback for the Irish before transferring to Montana last winter.

"What happened with my son and the reasons for leaving Notre Dame shouldn't happen to any kid," he said. "At this point in time, it?s hard to be in their corner."

Cont'd ...

"You can see the players that I have recruited, you know who they are," Kelly said Thursday. "We’ve had one class of kids that we’ve recruited that I’ve had my hand on.
"The other guys here are coming along," Kelly added. "It’s a process. It can’t happen overnight. They’re getting it. They’re making good progress."
After opening the season with back-to-back losses, Notre Dame (4-3) appeared to be on the right track again with four straight wins, the last two in blowout territory, before a 31-17 loss to USC on Saturday night.
Kelly, in his second season with Notre Dame after Charlie Weis was fired, wasn't apologizing earlier in the week when some USC players said they had been surprised Notre Dame didn't call a timeout during the game's final drive, with Trojans linebacker Chris Galippo flat-out saying the Irish had quit. USC quarterback Matt Barkley echoed that Monday, saying it seemed as if the Irish had given up.
"Our guys know what happened. They got their butts beat," Kelly said Tuesday. "They didn't play very well, and that comes with it. You get what you deserve."
But if the players had been mum on the topic of their late-game efforts, a wedge appeared to emerge late Thursday on social media, punctuated by a tweet written by junior linebacker Manti Te'o.
"Playin for my bros and that's it!!!!" Te'o posted, according to the Tribune.
