Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

there used to be though. there's a reason that France was known as the First Daughter of Rome. the French were instrumental in Rome retaining its power for like a thousand years.

They weren't really what we think of as modern day french though. The Gaul people were more Icelandic and Germanic and found there way into modern day France. What we think of as "french people" didn't come around until late in the Roman empire. I think they were called Franks.

No, more like the French warriors (called Gaul back then) bolstered the Roman army and did the dirty work that the Roman Legions found unfit.

Like surrender?

I don't know when France made the change from dirty warriors to primp and proper assholes...I'm guessing it's Charlie Weiss' fault.

My guess would be Ty Willingham, or maybe Lloyd Carr now. Both were notorious empty cabinet leavers.

So really they surrendered to the Romans every year for a millennium to help them stay in power, the Romans call them their bitch and the cheese eating surrender monkeys, of course, find a way to try and spin it to "First Daughter of Rome". Got it.

Learn something new every day.

Wild Fire by Nelson Demille. Page 294

"Grumpy had left a New York Times on the couch, and I scanned the front page. One headline read: U.S./FRENCH SPLIT ON IRAQ DEEPENS. I said to Kate, "See? If these people ate real food like the Irish and the English, they'd have some balls. Who eats snails? Here's another story - a fireworks display at Disneyland outside of Paris caused the nearby French Army garrison to drop their weapons and surrender to a busload of Swedish tourists."

Our conference may not have won three straight BCSNC's and be playing for our fourth - but we'll always have the SEC OOC schedule to talk about...

Of course, average fans might argue that had that conference played anyone with a heartbeat or traveled away from home in their OOC schedules, it's arguable that they may not have played in those NC games. Even Notre Dame can argue to playing a much tougher OOC schedule. Thank goodness for those FCS schools in the south with football teams, eh?

I see much commentary to the effect that there is "more in the closet" following a 6W, 6L season under Weis than there was at the outset of a 9W, 3L season under Weis. And my head starts to feel like it is about to explode.
:atom:

Amen. What's in the closet after the Pickle and Golden Tate depart? You had the beginning of a great passing combo there and now? Willingham left with Quinn, two good to great receivers, an excellent punt and kickoff back an All American center and a decent defense. What has Charlie left that tops that?

Louisville in 2010 and 2011
Return trip to Colorado in 2012 (from 2006 game)
Clemson in 2013 and 14
Oregon in 2015 and 16.

It ain't Southern Cal and Texas - but I think we're moving in the right direction. What say you Jwin?

We kicked around a 2 for 1 with BYU too - but they got home and homes with FSU and neutral sites with Oklahoma, so I don't think they're buying.

Clemson? South Carolina is out of your region? The only threat to your rep that I see is Oregon. They're up and down, but when they're up and especially at Autzen, you're up to your ass in alligators -- no, wait, that's Gainsville...
