Michigan's Mallett to fill in for Henne

By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

ANN ARBOR - A quarterback crisis is the absolute last thing Michigan needs right now as the Wolverines (0-2) stagger into Saturday's game here with Notre Dame (0-2). Michigan has opened the season with two losses at home for the first time since 1959. But the 39-7 humbling defeat at the hands of Oregon, Michigan's worst loss since 1968, was more damaging than initially thought. Senior quarterback Chad Henne, who has started every game in his Michigan career (39), was injured in last weekend's loss and is not expected to play against the Fighting Irish. That left Michigan coach Lloyd Carr to offer this terse, direct and abrupt assessment of his quarterback situation as he prepares for Notre Dame. "Ryan Mallett," Carr said yesterday, referring to the freshman from Texarkana High School in Texas.

Well that fits in with my report yesterday about Henne's injury but where do they get a QB controversy out of it? Carr would never start Mallet over a healthy Henne at this stage of the game. Unless Henne blew up in his next couple starts after coming back. Then he might think about it.

I can't handle the hype! Will Clausen's family be there? What will his mom be wearing? I have to know the biography of his brothers and father. I need more reaction shots from his family!

Man this is exciting!

They may be assholes, but at least Michigan is a Big Ten team
The hell with 'em.

I'm all for the strength of the conference, cheering for the Big Ten teams in bowl, the conference "rah rah," or whatever ... but, honestly, I want Michigan fans to suffer. I want them to endure the most unbearable season imaginable. I want to see Michigan go 2-10 with a senior heavy squad, while Ohio State goes 10-2 with a host of first year starters at every skill position. I want 2007 to be the final nail in the coffin, the last fence-pole in the fence JT has put up around Ohio.

Michigan, and the Big Ten, will be fine in a year or two.

So, just once, in my lifetime, I want to see the bastards squirm and suffer something so miserable that all those smug, arrogant, jerks in Central Ohio - that have ZERO affiliation with Michigan other than taking the pleasure at being the asshole at the party - well, I want to see Michigan flame out so spectacularly that we don't ever have to see those fans in and around Columbus again.

Nothing has given me more pleasure these past two weeks than hearing about how humiliated and embarrassed these assholes have been all over C-Bus when they're heckled and laughed out of all the BW3s. I want them to have no choice but to burn all their Michigan gear and crawl back under their rocks.

A win doesn't do anything for Notre Dame with their schedule, they're going to have a miserable season regardless. I see it as the lesser of two evils this year.

And so I ask again,(and I'd love to hear from the Michigan fans who drop in here) Are you telling me that the only QB Michigan has to back up Henne is a true freshman? How bare can the shelves be?

Matt Gutierrez? What ever happened to him?

Crazy ain't it. the neighbor may have been blowing smoke but I don't think so. He has been a big time scum fan for as long as Ive known him (20 yrs or so)
we will find out if Henne doesn't play saturday.

Considering that we tOSU fans had Gruden, Bellotti and Stoops all coming to tOSU, I think I'd take what a fan thinks/wishes with a grain of salt. Fact is, he knows nothing.

Meanwhile, it was reported early yesterday that Henne wouldn't play, so that's not exactly inside information.

GPA! These are my exact thoughts....well said.

Personally, I consider Michgian State beating Pitt this week more important than scUM beating ND in terms of conference credibility. scUM has already lost their credibilty this year and beating the domers sure isn't going to get it back for them.

In addition, if we, Penn State, and Wisconsin win all of our games until we play each other then the conference's strength will be determined by our bowl performances. If we do bad there or these top three teams can't win their other games, well, then maybe the Big 10 doesn't deserve to be considered one the "elite" conferences this year.

Any way we can get a GPA for this post?
