NoSuch Dame LB Manti "Snugglebunny" Te'o (official imaginary thread)

Are you seriously saying you won't take Manti in the 5th round for 500k-League Min? He's not going to be THAT big of a distraction.

Not if I can get another 5th rounder without all that baggage...
Give me a break. There's no way Te'o lasts till the 5th.

I don't want my team to draft him, particularly, but the same sorts of things they're saying about Te'o (sans the whole catfishing thing) were said about James Laurinaitis a few years ago. He'll be an adequate pro at least, and I doubt he lasts past the 2nd.

While I agree with you regarding Teo, I don't think its fair to compare him with JL. Laurinaitis played much superior competition, still dominated, and set the BCS record for most tackles in the championship game - he had the track record to indicate success, whereas Teo completely flunked his only test of the season.

That and JL performed throughout his college career. T'eo is a one year wonder and not even really a wonder at that....

That's so full of shit...no one was shaking their heads in disgust at Laurinaitis' 40 time. No one was ridiculing JL falling during the cone drills (because he didn't). And like it or not, his fake girlfriend baggage is a big factor because few, if anyone, still respects him at the same level as they did pre-catfish. He's little more than a fucking joke right now...

Kid will be a 6-8 year starter in the NFL assuming he stays healthy. The MLB position is ever changing in the NFL with spread QB's but Manti is solid in traffic and a tackling machine (please disregard the abusement Eddy Lacy put on him).

It's fun to make fun of this dude, but at some point it's smart to take his actual football skills into consideration.

Statistically that is highly improbable regardless of how good he is- and there are serious question marks across the board which have been covered extensively in this thread.

Based on what?

The only thing that separates him from the pack statistically is the 7 interceptions, and he had exactly zero in his career prior to this past season.

Yes, because most NFL running backs and offensive linemen won't be as good as the ones he got embarrassed by on that night.

I think that's what most people in this thread are doing. Take away the hype and the kid had an above average college career with a bad combine performance and a ton of off-field question marks.

Displayed poor athleticism in the combine- check. Self admittedly terrible under pressure- check. Questionable intelligence to downright epic stupid based on the internet stuff- check. Absolutely embarrassed by a team with talent level that approaches the level he will face on Sunday's- check.

Yeah, that screams a long and productive NFL career. What exactly is the upside here?

Like I said, I wouldn't really want my team to draft him, but according to NFL.com the guy has a first-round grade - 21st, overall. Given that, I can't see him lasting past round 2.

I wouldn't guess the naysayers around here are as good at NFL talent evaluation as NFL.com has available, so it is what it is. But of course, they could all be wrong and you guys could be right - like I was with Ryan Leaf. But like I was not with Ray Rice.

I agree with you about the personal baggage, but Laurinaitis did run a 4.76 at the combine (not all that different from Te'o's 4.82), and performed comparably in the jumping drills.

If I haven't yet done it as of 1 week before the NFL Draft, somebody remind me to create a vBet on where Manti Te'o will be drafted.

There's a big difference between jumping drills (whatever the fuck those are) and the cone drills which show agility.
