No Reservations w/ Anthony Bourdain

Myanmar was awesome. I really want Korean food now. I don't know where he's going next week but I'm gonna watch.

It was a throw-away episode (no destination), but the one "No Reservations" episode that made me extremely hungry was the "Techniques" episode where they showed how to make a cheeseburger, steak, lobster, etc.

Basic food prep, but made me hungry.

After two episodes, like "Parts Unknown" better, worse or the same as the Travel Channel show? Too soon to tell?

I do like they featured Koreatown (in L.A.).

Holy hell, I watched this episode last night. That food looked so damn good.

When I watch Sunday's episode live, seeing those Myanmar teenagers trying to sell those trinkets to tourist rather than going to school kind of disappointed me (but everyone needs money).

Was it his show where they went to a trash dump in a foreign country and there were entire families digging through the trash in search of food?

I think that might have been Haiti on his Travel Channel show.

I remember the show bought the entire area around a food stand food at one point (in Haiti).

That was the Nicaragua episode. I think the new show is picking up where No Reservations left off. I'm happy with it so far. I may be wrong, but I get the impression that he brought his production team along with him. I've always thought one of the things that makes No Reservations so great is that it is shot and produced so well. Hopefully that continues.

Yeah, he said (in an interview) he wouldn't have left if his production staff didn't go with him, because he said he has to travel (live) with these people and has been traveling with them for years.

Kind of telling that the filming crew had to keep moving locations (hotels) in Libya. Also, the multiple shots of their (crew) stashed guns was good for emphasis.

Maybe Travel Channel didn't allow them to show stashed guns, but that's the first time I recall on that show they showed their guns (for anything but recreational use).

It was kind of like the NBC show "Revolution" with militias and the militia telling them to leave that one area (Gaddafi's compound).

Watching the Lyon, France episode of "Parts Unknown" from Sunday and it's making me hungry.

All the France episodes of "No Reservations" and "Parts Unknown" seem like culinary showcase pieces. Some very delicate dishes.

That was a damn good episode, way better than the Vegas one last week. It seems the episodes based in Europe or Asia are always very good.

I always enjoy Zamir on the show with Tony (as he was on Sunday's Russia episode). It means a lot of vodka is going to be consumed.

A couple Zamir quotes from Sunday
- "You can't take that on the plane though. They won't understand." (after Tony is given a shell from a cannon).
- "I will revoke your visa." (threat to Tony if he beats him skiing).
