No. 1 Ohio State vs. #9 Xavier (Game Thread)

It appeared to me that Oden took a step forward to get the ball, and the Xavier guy took a step towards Oden at the same time, causing him (Xavier) to fall back/down. Oden's arms extending (why they are saying it was a push) looked, at least to me, like an attempt to grab the ball. Just my .02.
It looked to me like Greg knocked him down intentionally because he had to, what with the time being like it was. May I add he did it quite well too :wink2:

After watching the last 5 min again, the "intentional foul" play looks much different.

It apppears to me that 1.not only was Oden being elbowed in the back by Cage going for the rebound but 2.also had his left arm held by Duncan.

I don't know. I guess the refs just let em play it out and only called a personal even if Oden was fouling intentionally to stop the clock. Cage getting knocked on his arse.....well, shit happens.

Anyways....I built a bridge and I'm over it.:wink2:

it was an urgent situation. Oden knew he needed to foul the guy immediately, and he did. the intention wasn't to knock the guy down, just to foul him. the refs made the right call...

now as for the cross check on Butler at half court, i dunno... isn't that a two minute penalty in hockey?

hmm... Butler puts Maryland away... good stuff! the more ACC teams lose, the better.

He also made at least some attempt at the ball, which seems to usually be the distinction between flagrant/non-flagrant fouls.

Bingo. Let's quit talking about that foul, it wasn't even close to being 'intentional' (in a game-ending situation), and it's not the story of the game.

I had a computer crash and spent 14 hours today getting things back online, which I have just done. I was able to log in to BP on a modem on an old computer, but the line was so slow I could not do anything else.

Just as I was lamenting my state, ESPN decided to broadcast the last three minutes of the game and the highlights of the OT.

Wow. What a game! Thank you 4077 Karl Road!

Lewis was the star of this game, but for me the play of the game was the foul by Oden. A real heads-up play that gave us that final chance and spoke volumes about his faith in his team and his commitment to them.
