A high profile MLB player let it be known at last years trade deadline he wouldn’t play in the playoffs for a team he was traded to if they didn’t give him a contract extension. He wasn’t traded. While I think this is a reasonable viewpoint I would argue they went from "paying players is illegal" to "NIL" pretty darned quick, so I can happen if they want it to.
But I must reiterate: where does it end? Holding out of playoffs for more money can quickly morph into holding out for regular season games and then after a good game or two, holding out after a great play! It's not sustainable. Will it have to crash first before they do something? Probably.
I thought it was what happens when you drink the water in Mexico.I'm pretty sure that was a Roman emperor.
Again, very possible. But, much like the RSNs of baseball, the golden goose that lays unlimited golden eggs isn't gonna last forever. I'm as big a Buckeye fan as anyone, but I'm not going to constantly pay through the nose to watch them. I quit watching baseball, basketball and hockey for a decade plus for that reason. Do they really want CFB to go that way? If they do, Nico won't be the only one learning about capitalism.A high profile MLB player let it be known at last years trade deadline he wouldn’t play in the playoffs for a team he was traded to if they didn’t give him a contract extension. Point being players will have leverage no matter what. The teams have tens of millions in NIL money flowing around, the conferences have hundreds of millions to billions in media deals. I’d say the odds of the sport “crashing” are very low.
Oh this has always been the fault of his father. Fans just want to focus on the kid. I'm not saying that Nico shouldn't deserve some blame, but he deserves very little. I'm sure if you were to ask Nico by himself what he would've wanted. I'm sure he would've stayed at Tenn for the $2+mil. Daddy saw what Carson Beck got and what he assumed other guys were getting, and thought he should get more. I'm sure his dad saw what Cam Ward supposedly earned at Miami as well and thought Nico could get more before the CFP. Nico will be the scapegoat because the public sees himLooks more and more like this is 95% on an out of control “adult”. The kid may have some unattractive traits but given the father, how could he not?

Its actually not hard to imagine at all depending on the program and their locker room dynamics. Jealousy is a strong drug, and social media feeds into that. And there isn't an 18-22yo without a Snapchat, tik tok, IG, or twitter account, they can see what their friends and showcasing. If you went to HS with a guy, and you end up at Kansas St and he ends up at Nebraska, and you see him with a new G wagon, and you have comparable stats but you're driving a new Chevy Silverado, jealousy can start to seep in. Or your parent or "relative" can think you deserve more because they think you're better than your buddy or a guy they've seen on social media, and think you deserve more. So why not threaten to sit out the big rivalry game, or homecoming, or the big conference game to prove your point. It is a slippery slopeIt’s hard to imagine that… but, by the same token, 10 years ago it would have been very hard to imagine where we are today. Anything is possible.
I hope that the pilots of this thing can pull back on the stick before it runs into the ground.
It shows that the old quote is true "people don't like change". At least not publicly they don't. Fans don't have a problem not knowing how a recruit got to their school, but they don't want to know publicly that a teenager or young adult makes more than them.Again, the money flowing around seems to indicate a very healthy following for the sport. Projecting your own personal feelings onto it (as valid as they may be) isn't an accurate gauge of impending collapse.
I remember as a young kid in the 70's, I was legitimately upset because I heard adults saying baseball was going to hell/going to end etc etc etc (all the same stuff) because of how much money the players were making and free agency would kill the sport so on and so on. I was 8 years old or so and thought adults know what they are talking about and baseball was going to end as a sport.
Flash forward and I just don't buy it at all, in any decade since, when fans who are actually just voicing their discontent about change start predicting cataclysm for a sport. CFB isn't going anywhere.
A few hardcore fans might but the sport isn't.
Certainly. And for the record, I'm not predicting an imminent collapse, but I simply don't see this as sustainable. They are going to have to come up with some sort of structure or it will. Not tomorrow or next year or even a couple of years - but I can't see it as being able to continue like this.Again, the money flowing around seems to indicate a very healthy following for the sport. Of course. The one who was always constipated
