Nico Iamaleava (QB Tennessee, bad poker player, transfer to UCLA)

Nico Iamaleava, Tennessee football teammates accused of sabotaging CFP game vs Ohio State because of NIL

Nico Iamaleava and his Tennessee teammates have been accused of throwing their College Football Playoff game against Ohio State, a 42-21 loss in Columbus, because they didn’t receive enough in NIL compensation.
They're accused of throwing the game to make it a 42-21 loss? That's funny, because the final score was 42-17. And they (Tennessee) scored a late, garbage-time touchdown, or it would have been 42-10.
If you want to throw a game, maybe fake an injury the first time the other team breaks your helmet. Don't stick around for them to break a second helmet, and then put it all out there to be the reason your team scores ANY points at all, including that late "garbage-time" touchdown.

I call BS. They came into Ohio Stadium believing that any SEC team would blow Ohio State out. In fairness, suck and blow are directional and they did suck in Ohio Stadium. It was men and boys, one of them running for his life on almost every play.

They can't enforce them. Supreme Court and Congress both ruled that they won't stop any young adult from earning a paycheck. So a college can say they won't pay Player X, and then that kid can just go somewhere else, or he can sue the program(and will probably win). Again, this is ALL the fault of the NCAA, this isn't the fault of the kids or their family's, because anyone could've known that greed would follow all of the money that was going to be spent. We can't honestly sit on a message board, fawning over teenagers for their athletic skills, and then not expect them to want to earn a salary based on their demand. No different than any other adult. The toothpaste is out of the tube, fans can be mad, but the only way is what @Jaxbuck has said before and I've agreed, a clear CBA and making players employees. And pretty much breaking football away from the collegiate structure, and essentially making it a minor league(like it's pretty much always been) with salary caps, transfer caps, pay structure, etc
It gets reigned in when the universities finally have had enough and make the players employees with contracts and a CBA. That's the only way the toothpaste goes back into the tube.

the only hang up there is title IX

Just because the current administration won't use it against the schools doesn't mean it's not a threat in the long term

"know your role" is a good lesson too. It is a different tier system in the end. If Nico was a QB coming off like a 30+ TD/5 INT with some decent running stats to go along with it and good performances against good teams type season, then sure he could demand 2 million more dollars and probably get it. But he played like crap against any decent teams and the bulk of his meh stats were built up against Chattanooga, UTEP and Vanderbilt.
Hence get better advice. Sounds like his Dad is too busy sucking his own dick to actually look around and see what everyone else sees.
Thanks Dad …

The dad is being a turd bucket for sure, but in the end Nico is an adult who is capable of making his own decisions, if he doesn't have the awareness to recognize that he did not produce at a high enough level last year to try to command a multi million dollar raise then I think he's probably got some poor decision making skills of his own.
