I think it's going to take something like 8-10mil and 1-2% equity for him to leave. Makes it interesting, but currently unheard of and sets dangerous precedent. It would make him the first and really give a boost to his ego and he would have to do it, but I don't see it happening. Other than that i see 3 options. He retires in next 5 years on a hi note, he sticks around for 10 more years and wears out his welcome and is forced out, or he loses a big game and the fans piss him off so much he quits.

Pretty much this, and somehow I see the last scenario being more likely. That or substitute the media for fans. :lol:

They've already started with the "greatest coach ever" stuff - ahhh, the internet age. Dude's been successful as hell, obviously, but off the top of my head I know at least two NCs he would've never "won" back in the polls & bowls era. The ridiculous do-over the BCS gave him in 2009 or 10 after LSU won in Tuscaloosa and Bama watched the Tigers win the SEC title from their sofas, and last night over Clemson. For decades LSU would've been crowned champs and this year it would've been unbeaten Clemson after they curb stomped Oklahoma.

Has Saban taken advantage of those opportunities? Yep, because he's a helluva coach. But the legends who came before him were never afforded such second chances. It's a different world now, so direct comparisons without acknowledging that are kinda lazy.

Different era talk will always be at the top of any debate in sports. I think Saban is a great coach, and one of the greatest ever. Its not his fault he got the benefit of the doubt, you play who you play. Same argument when SEC fans laugh off the OSU schedule, yet we can't help our schedule. But Saban is still great at what he does. Its the same argument when fans put Zeke as the greatest OSU RB ever, but then the debate goes to his offensive scheme and era, against what Archie and Eddie ran. Same argument when some say Barry Sanders is the greatest NFL RB, and others say Jim Brown. The arguments are always subjective, but you can't deny Sabans 5 titles, regardless how he got them, and his constant top 3 recruiting classes. I give credit where its due, and the only thing I can say is Urban and Buckeyes need to punch Saban and Bama in the mouth next in the playoffs again. We both lose a lot of talent and are still very strong

I contend that a lot of coaches in the past didn't even have to play a great team to win a championship. It wasn't until the BCS era that you were guaranteed a 2 v 1 matchup.

that was 2011.
Greatest LSU football season I ever saw and a team in the discussion for best college season ever when you compare our schedule that year to other past champions. Then we get told beating Bama in their own yard wasn't good enough, we had to do it again.


Saban would have never shared the '03 title without the BCS either.
We would have gone to the Sugar Bowl.
#1 USC would have still played #4Michigan in the Rose Bowl. no way they drop from #1 after winning that game.
#3 Oklahoma would have gone to the Fiesta Bowl and probably played someone like #5 Georgia.
#2 LSU would have been in the Sugar and been lucky to have drawn a team ranked higher than #8 Ohio State (more likely either #9 FSU or #10 Miami). even if they blow the doors off of them, they don't jump media darling USC.
