Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

Why won't this guy just leave. Does he have a desire to see if he can succeed in the NFL or is he just content beating up teams full of less talented players?

Personally I dont think he will succeed when talent is equal. Does he think that? This has to be getting less rewarding every time.

Why would he ever leave? He has to be having the time of his life right now! You're doing a lot of wishful thinking! If the tables were turned and Urban was running roughshod through the conference and winning NCs or contending yearly, we all would want him to stay forever! It'll never get less rewarding to hear that you're the greatest coach ever, that you can walk on water, heal the sick, etc! Saban can run for governor of AL, whack off in the middle of their stadium and it'd sell out, flip off ever camera in AL and they'll love him still and ask for more, I don't think with the size of the egos of some of these coaches that there's enough adulation. he's loving every millisecond of this ride. He'd honestly be crazy to leave, unless he's going through sanctions and leaves like ol Petey

Agree 100%. If Urban won 3 more titles, I would never want him to leave. What you just described to most normal people that sounds awesome, but from what I hear what makes the best college coaches the best is they love the challenge. They always want to push to the next level. That's what makes great coaches great, what drives people to become the CEO or president. If he just wanted adulation or his ego to grow he could have stayed at MSU or LSU. If Urban just wanted to have his ego stroked, he could have stayed at Bowling Green or Utah. The elite coaches aren't ones that need their ego stroked, that's for the next tier down or so of coaches (like Kiffin). These type of personalities always need to take on the next level and prove they can do it. There is the high. He has plateaued at bama, there is no higher to go, he can win 4 more titles over the next 7-8 years and become the greatest college coach ever, but it's really just more of the same. Last night I saw two teams out there, one that was striving for their shot at a title, one that had pushed for years to build up to this point, trying to climb the mountain. The other one was just there because that's who they are, and when they won the whole country turned off the tv and said 'ok, they got another one', even the two bama fans I know leading up to this seemed bored with it, they weren't pumped and waiting excitedly, like I imagine Clemson fans were, like I was last year. I knew one Bama fan when I was in gainesville in the 2011 season and she was PUMPED getting ready to play LSU again. A huge tide fan. She was indifferent this year leading up to it. I'm sure she was yelling at the TV last night, but it wasn't the same as 4 years ago.

I will have to respectfully disagree with most of your post. Difference is, Saban has already been to the NFL and failed miserably, why go back to the league and taint your legacy? Staying at MSU and LSU weren't on the same level as bringing Alabama back to prominence and keeping them on top. Not the same challenge as staying at UF or BG for Urban either. Going to a powerhouse program and making them own the collegiate landscape is a very tough challenge. And not every college coach is fit for the NFL, so the next challenge isn't always going to the NFL. Saban is a god in CFB and not looked at in the same respect in the pros by a long shot. College coaches are looked at as gimmicky in the NFL and very few have succeeded for extended periods of time. And at Sabans age I highly doubt he needs going to the NFL as a challenge, winning titles in college and recruiting I'd what he loves, and it shows with his recruiting classes. I don't think Saban retires until he gets Bears record and sets one of his own. And if you don't think elite coaches don't have egos than you're smoking something, elite CFB coaches and NFL coaches are known to be some of the most egotistical human beings out! And I'm sure Saban is watching the NC on repeat at his house while plotting his next one. Why leave a place where you're the king, ruler, president and leader of the entire state for a league in which players make more than you, won't listen or pay attention to drill serganent ways like kids in college will? And Bama fans love rubbing in other teams faces that they keep winning titles, if would be the same if OSU won multiple titles soon. Sorry, but there's no way in hell that I'd get sick of watching OSU win 4 titles in 7 years! EVER! Your friends are just different, because I got tons of texts and saw many posts from my friends and family in AL, and they don't seem to be tired of the winning one bit! Nor would I. And I'd yell at the TV with the same emotion at Urban's 5th, 6th or 7th, etc title as I did in 2002 and last year!

i would be shocked if Saban left for any reason other than retirement.
when he was here, everyone knew the NFL was his ultimate goal. Even after he won the title in '03, we were just waiting for him to leave.

He tested those waters, and while not a rousing success, he wasn't exactly a failure either. And he learned quick that he didn't care for the NFL very much. didn't like the players, his bosses, etc.

for the same money (more actually), he can come to college and be THE man. yeah he technically speaking has a boss, but who do you honestly thing has more clout, Saban or whoever Bama's AD is?

he has a chance to go down as the best ever to coach the college game. can basically print out however much money he wants, and basically has to answer to nobody. and he's doing it at a school that historically shown they will do anything and everything (legal or not) to make sure his team wins.

Alabama as an institution has shown consistently that the only thing that matters is the Bama football team. They don't even attempt to fund other sports or try to keep up in them. It's all about football and nothing else.

Drive through that state. there is nothing else there. no pro team (other than Auburn) in any sport, no major tourist attractions, no casinos, only a short coastline. there is literally nothing else to do in that cesspool.

Not going to lie, impressive execution and Clemson didn't see that at all. Knew the game was over from that point. But fuck Bama! Did anyone catch Nick complaining about the travel difficulty of the playoff game and NCG and insisting on home field advantage for 1 and 2 seeds?
Nicks gonna be Nick. Ad funny thing is, because he said it, it'll be on Sports center now

i think we're heading that way eventually anyway. but it won't because of the difficult schedule for the student athletes.

once the newness of the playoffs completely wears away, i think we're going to see the semi-finals having a tougher and tougher time selling out.
teams that typically travel well and consider themselves "blue bloods" won't be as likely to travel in droves halfway across the country twice in an 8 day span every year.
especially those that drive to these games rather than fly.

yeah any newcomer will still make the multiple trips (as evidenced by Clemson fans outnumbering Bama fans in Arizona).

but how many Oklahoma fans do you honestly think would drive 23 hours east and south, then a week later go the complete opposite direction on a 15 hour drive?

depending on how you look at it, Bama fans had either the most or least convenient travel of the 4 teams this year.
the Cotton Bowl is only about 9 hours from Tuscaloosa. Those fans could have planned to just hang out in and around Dallas for a couple days then head west to Glendale.
but if they decide to go home between games, they had to drive right back through Arlington in route to the CFB Championship game.

I don't think I've been all that critical of this sawed-off little fuck in the past, but today just flat pissed me off. Fuck his little bitch yard gnome ass. The little SEC Napoleon kicks three 3-star commits to the curb just days before NLOID so he can have openings to sign three 5-stars at the 11th hour. These sister-fucking retards go from like 10th in recruiting less than a week ago to the consensus #1 for like the sixth decade in a row. Fuck them and any Alabama fan that ever was, is, or ever will be. Roll Tard.

Leave it to Nick to try and steal the attention away from Ped State:

Nick Saban Gets Testy When Paul Finebaum Asks About Cam Robinson, Keeps Arguing With Him Off-Air

“Do you think they were persecuting the football players?” Finebaum asked. Saban didn’t answer the question, but said, “There’s just a lot of questions there that are reasons that there weren’t charges brought against these guys.” The Alabama coach then accused Finebaum of convicting Robinson in the media, and ended the conversation by basically saying he doesn’t care what anyone thinks, because he’ll discipline his players as he sees fit. Good talk, guys.

The two didn’t stop there, though. After the interview, Saban and Finebaum kept going, but according to AL.com, the “heated exchange” ended with laughter:

Within earshot of media, Saban launched into a four-letter tirade directed at Finebaum. In it, he used his fingers to note the small amount of marijuana found in the car and insinuated the arresting officers were disgruntled LSU fans.

It ended with a few laughs from everyone on set as Saban exited.
