Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

Nick Saban says “I’m just too damn old to start over”

The rumors trying to connect Nick Saban to a potential vacancy at Texas are mildly entertaining, but if we are to take the Alabama head coach at his word we can probably put them all to rest. Saban says his age will prevent him from even think about starting with a clean slate at any other program.
“Every year it’s something. Last year it was the Cleveland Browns,” Saban said Thursday night on his weekly radio show, according to AL.COM “And, quite frankly, I’m just too damn old to start over somewhere else.”
So there you go. Forget about Saban going to Texas to replace Mack Brown in 2014. Well, maybe. Who knows, after all, didn’t Saban say similar things when he was with the Miami Dolphins? Yes, he did. Never say never, right?

Where as LSU schedules Oregon when they are at the top of their game, Alabama keeps scheduling historically good or great teams when they are down on their luck:

Last 5 years of out of conference marquee games:
VaTech would have been a good game a decade ago years ago, they rack up an easy win against a regional power while they are on a big downward slope.
Michigan, winningest program in college football after they have been thoroughly screwed up by Rich Rod. Still, a Marquee win in the record book.
Penn State shortly after their glory years ended. It has been petering off for a while, but even in 09-10 it would have been a good win.
They hit up VaTech again about 5 years after they resembled a good team.
Clemson... never a power, but a Marquee win for Alabama (a year they went 12-0 regular season destroying the treacherous SEC West, lost a close one to Florida in the SEC title game and got killed by Utah in the Sugar Bowl.

EDIT: Most of those games were scheduled only a year earlier. So it isn't like they were scheduled when the team was good.

HEY! You try playing Georgia State and Chattanooga in one season! Do that once and then tell me you're not trying to find a game that looks better than it really is.

Interesting matchup between Bama and Ole Miss tonight. This one will tell us a bit more about the Taad. If they continue to struggle on defense against Ole Miss, we will know this team is not as dominant as those in the recent past.

I love how Bama beating Ole Miss is being billed as a top 10 win. I don't care how many 5 stars they got last year, it's Ole Miss. It was a blowout, Colorado State and Virginia Tech both gave Bama more of a fight. A team that has won 4 conference games in the last 3 years. They may have some raw freshman athletes, but those athletes are raw, they lack coaching, training facilities, and upper classmen leadership/talent. Their goal is to get to a bowl by winning half of their games. I've got Ole Miss marked as one of Bert's 4 wins this year.

Isn't Dix the player that scUM fans thought was a lock until Bama decided to have a couple of practices at the high school where this kid went, and in the process upgraded the football practice field and some other facilities, and may have also hired his HS coach?

That guy?
